I made a light for my new-to-me Kindle Touch...

I just got a used Kindle Touch, and I decided pretty quickly that I like it a lot, so I plan to keep it for a while. I also realized pretty quickly that I would need a light to use it properly, so I looked around for something that would work for me. I didn't find anything that was both satisfactory and cheap, so I decided to make my own instead (rough prototype). Here are some close-ups too.

Out of curiosity, does anyone else have or know of a similar light (that is, something minimal and thin, that should work with any (cheap) case, and that also uses the Kindle's external power contacts, rather than its own battery)? Is there anyone besides me that wants such a thing?

Dollar Tree had clip on lights for $1 they give off a nice broader light.

It looks awfully "glarey" - a single LED without any form of light diffuser isn't going to be very good for reading at night.

You should see if you can get an official lighted kindle touch cover. It is really superior to what you made.

Check ebay. I see some on there now.

Congrats on your Kindle Touch. I think it is an excellent model.

I'm getting a used Kindle Touch. Should be here by Weds. I've slowly come to realize that unlighted e-ink readers have sharper text than lighted e-ink readers. Since I have a Kobo Mini, I don't really need it...however it has twice the storage, and audio. So I think it is different enough to justify having it on hand.

Of course the first thing I will do is jailbreak, add custom sleep screen pictures, and the margins patch. And my favorite font.

Interesting. For me, the first thing I do when I get a new reader is add books. The second thing I do is read.

While I applaud your ingenuity, it looks rather flimsy. I think I'd rather get a clip on or a lighted case.

Those lighted cases looks pretty nice, but the Amazon one costs more new than I spent on the Kindle! It's just plastic and a light, crazy... that's why I ended up making my own in the first place. This thing cost me $1.80 for the LED, and a few hours of my otherwise wasted free time, and it works pretty well for me. Anyway, I'm enjoying the Kindle with or without a light.
