Creating spaces around hyphens (or dashes).
Hey,
I'm new to Calibre. Today I downloaded a PDF copy of Rich Dad Poor Dad, and I used Calibre to convert it and put it onto my Kobo Mini. It worked, although the version I have seems to have no spaces around dashes and it's very annoying. The problem is that is there are words that will probably include proper dashes such as "19-year-old" or similar things... Those wouldn't need changing. Does anybody have any solutions for this? Maybe I should try to download a different version? |

Calibre now has a built in ebook editor for epub books. You can convert to epub and then edit as you please, including using search, search-and-replace and regular expressions. Afterwards you can convert to a suitable format for your device.
But you would most likely benefit from starting with some format other than PDF. PDF is most likely the worst possible format to download if you intend to convert to another format. It is even possible that the problem goes away if you start with some other format. |

I apologise to wallflowerface for jumping to a conclusion. As Adoby says, your best option is to get a different original format than PDF, which is the worst ebook format for conversions. I note that the US Navy Digital Library also has it available in Kindle format. Last edited by pdurrant; 01-04-2014 at 02:00 PM. |

I agree, avoid PDF formats when at all possible. Last edited by unboggling; 01-04-2014 at 04:48 PM. |
