Tag = Author? Easy way to make collections ?
Hi guys,
Just a quick question (I had a elobarate post but my pc had a blue screen ![]() I would like to make collections based upon the author's name. I prefer sorting my books that way instead of sorting them alphabetically. I want to seperate the authors from each other. So I want a Bukowski collection of ONLY Bukowski. I want a collection named Mark Twain with ONLY Mark Twain (no other author with the letter T) The easiest way to those would be to make all tags = author name. But since I'm new to Calibre I dont know how to do this without manually editing all tags.. can anybody help me out? Is there a way to automatically make the tag of all my books equal their author names? |

I assume you are using the Collections manager plugin....
Just use the author name as the basis for collections. it's even easier. Don't mess around with tags at all. |

I'm sorry, as far as I know I don't use any plugins.. I've been using Calibre for a day haha. So there is a special plug in for the result i'm trying to achieve?
Edit: I did some seaching and the only plug-in I've found was for the Kindle. I have a sony. Last edited by G111; 12-30-2013 at 04:54 PM. |

In the screenshot there is a "comma separated list of metadata fields to turn into collections on the device". You will need to have your Sony plugged in, and the "Device" icon will have a dropdown that lets you configure it, this screenshot window will pop up. Add "authors" to that line, and collections will be made based on authors. You can also get this window by going to Preferences ==> Advanced ==? Plugins and searching "sony newer" to select the right device interface plugin, then click the button on the bottom "customize". |

Yeah! We're almost there
![]() Only one problem left: It sorted the collections on first name, whereas I would like to sort the collections based upon the last names. Is this possible? (i.e. now it's author A.Z. followed by author B.A. - I would like the collection of author B.A. come first since the last name starts with an A) |

Try 'author_sort' instead of 'authors' in the line described above. That should give you the author names in the format 'LN, FN'.
