Paperwhite collections question

I just upgraded from a kindle keyboard (or whatever it was called) to the paperwhite. I was tired of the tedious interface with the older model.

However, I'm confused about collections on the paperwhite. All of my collections came down on sync (even if the books aren't there). But here's the confusion - when I add a book to the collection, I'd like to appear ONLY in that collection and not still show up in the default view. For example I have a collection of already read books. I just added a book to that collection, but it still appears as a single book when showing the cover view on "my device". Sorry for lack of technical terms. I don't know what you call the default home view. I'd like book to disappear so I no longer see the cover. That can't be done? On my old kindle when I added it to a collection it no longer showed up as a single book in the list.

I just want less clutter and don't want to have to still see what I've already read. Thanks!

This is a result of the latest PW2 firmware. Before the latest firmware collections worked as you imagine. The upgrade completely messed up the way that most people use collections and per-device management. Most people are either keeping their PW2 disconnected from wifi so it does not upgrade or they are praying for a fix from Amazon.

Yikes. Well I can't keep it disconnected as I need to download books from the cloud. And of course I already have the new version. I bought it from someone that got it as a gift and didn't want it. I got a sweet deal, but it already had the latest firmware from what I could tell. I hope they roll out an update! Cause this messes with my head. I hate seeing stuff I already read. I suppose I could remove it from my device as a way of organization but that seems lame. Thanks!

I use list view and then you can sort by collections and it will disappear from the main view--or should. But I don't know if it works with the cover view. Actually, it appears that way in cover view. Why am I seeing it work correctly when other people do not?
