Sync additions between libraries on same computer?

I have a new Windows 8 computer. For the first time, my wife and I have different accounts on the computer. On our old computer, we shared a single account and both used Calibre. I understand Calibre is single user only. So, we now each have a different library now on the new computer.

I was wondering what other people do to keep the libraries in sync, if that is possible. I'm not opposed to a manual process, or sharing some files/directories between our accounts. But I would like to be able to pick up books she adds, and for her to pick up books I add.

The easiest, since you have only one computer, would be to have only one shared install. I would assume that is the default, if you make sure that the library is stored in a folder that both users have access to.

Just try it. You may have to use a superuser account when installing. Not sure how that works for Windows.

AFAIK Calibre installs into the account that's current when its installed - I don't think it has an option to be installed for All User Accounts or Only Current User Account that one sees for some software.

You could

a) install the portable version
or
b) use calibres environment variables to relocate the the configuration and temporary data to a location that is accessible to both accounts. You will also need to relocate the library(ies) from Users/<whoever installed calibre>/Documents to a location that is accessible to both accounts.

I would create a top level folder named CalibreData (preferably on a drive other than the system drive) that contains three subfolders named Configuration, Temporary and Libraries. I would assign the relevant environment variables to the first two, and move my existing library folder(s) into the third.

I like to 'reserve' my install of calibre portable as a laboratory to try out any ideas or look at new features. Although there is no reason why one couldn't have calibre portable installed in multiple locations - e.g. one for everyday use and another to play with.

BR

Calibre normally installs the program with All user RUN rights.
The first RUN creates User (profile) Specific settings and a User Library..

The user has the option to Create (another Library or move) the Library to the Shared area.

When user 2 launches Calibre, the same New User (or lost configuration) actions happen.

(assumes separate libraries in shared rights areas)
If both Libraries are accessible to the user, that user can use Copy to Library

As you can see, it is also possible that 1 user has access to both, while the reverse may not be true

Thanks - Used a shared directory

Thanks for the feedback. Basically following the advice, I installed Calibre on the Admin account. Then I shared the library with myself and my wife's account. Then I pointed Calibre to use that shared library in the Admin account directory. Was actually really easy. I appreciate the comments.

By admin account, you mean an account with 'Admin' privileges and not 'The Admin' account.
