FreetimeUnlimited for a 3 year old?
I was wondering if anyone had any advice/experience with Kindle's Freetime Unlimited.
I am considering subbing for my almost 3 year old. The reason it's such a big deal is ... we don't own a Kindle Fire, etc. So it would be an investment in that too. I am fine with buying one (as I would also use it) but before I plop down a hunk of change for something like that I want to know if FTU is worth it. As I said he is 3 years old. Incredible fluent in iPad so I know he would have no issues with the Kindle Fire. He loves books, apps, etc. Any advice is appreciated and if this is in the wrong section, please feel free to move. |

Freetime unlimited seems interesting if Ican teach my little one to use a computer more. Seems like something good for kids, however IMHO I think your child and mine need to understand some technical issues here before they go hoping back and forth between an ipad and a kindle fire:
1) First and most important thing that they need to understand is given that an ipad is an apple product its all about proprietary (available from only one vendor) and in my real world job as a network administrator BAD. Apple strictly guards who they will let publish their software in their app store. The Fire is also proprietary but not at the same level as apple is (there is a jailbreak which will allow you to remove the proprietary aspects) much of the non-proprietary google play store is available for the fire. 2) There are some tablets available that are not proprietary and can chop on the more open Google Play store. |

Yes, it would be great for that age. Definitely worth it! Just get the Fire HD, you don't need the HDX.

We got my 3 year old a Kindle and use FTU on it. It's great, IMO, as it lets them try out games, books, apps, etc. without buying them first. We are prime members so it's about $3 a month. I don't have an iPad so I can't speak to how it's different.
My daughter's favorites are the interactive books, the hair salon app (which is hysterical) and Fruit Ninja. |

The biggest draw for FTU are the books (1,000+ titles); which make up most of FTUs content anyway. Check out the available titles, see what your child would be interested in, then compare renting unlimited access to these titles on a monthly basis vs buying them individually.
FTU is $3/ month if you have Prime and $5/ month if you don't. |
