Micro SD Troubles

Hey Folks,

Have had my kobo touch for a lil over a year bought it used had no issues with it until recently... I updated to firmware 3.0.1 and now it won't read my micro sd card, if I pull it out and plug it back in, it'll read it... until I shut the thing down.
Also tried to format but once I hit version 3.0.1 the issue comes back, was just wondering if anyone else has had these issues or am I just lucky ?

A fix would be nice, as the micro SD card works fine in my tablet (android version and not kobo related) but sadly I'm starting to wonder if I need a new e-reader...

Thanks in advance
Kennie

I've found the 2.10.0+ firmware seems to have issues with some uSD cards. For my wife, her Aura powers on and complains about wanting the card formatted but the screen blinks a couple of times and it reads happily enough. Since she uses a sleep cover with her Aura, I'm the only person who notices the problem. Testing showed about 50% of my uSD card collection would be happy in her Aura and I've offered to back up her data and restore it but, for now, she doesn't want me to fiddle with it.

Regards,
David

I never had a issue with the microSD card being read from previous firmware versions but it just seems since ver 3 things stopped... was hoping to find out if anyone else has had these issues as it makes me wonder if kobo didn't disable the microSD feature to have more people give money to them and not go else where for books.

This problem began with version 2.6.1 for some Touches. I have the original version of the Touch (N905) and it has the problem which was also carried forward to version 3.0.1. There is mention of this problem in the thread about version 2.6.1. The workaround is to leave the e-reader in sleep mode when not in use.

Kobo is aware of the problem but so far has decided not to fix it.

Thanks Joe appreciate the input...
Some how I can see them not fixing it because it would mean more users having to buy direct... but hopefully they will fix it in the near future.
But I know all we can do is HOPE

It's a bug in the firmware for the N905 Touch and possibly the N905B. The have no problem using the SD card, but do not recognise it properly when restarted. Eject it and put it back in, and it is fine. It has been in several firmware versions now. At the least it is in 2.8.1, but it might have been in 2.6.1.

I have noticed that in 3.0.1 none of my epubs show covers when the reader goes to sleep. I tried many things including factory reset, formatting the card, reloading books but the issue remains. Covers do appear on the home page and within the library (collections is it called now) area. I have resorted to having calibre inject covers which seems to compensate but I wonder if it relates back to the issues other people have with uSD cards. I don't keep any of my collection in main memory just on the uSD card.

There is a problem with covers which began with version 2.5.2. of the firmware and which affects only some Touches. Specifically, for ePUBS stored on a mSD card card, the graphic cover shown in the Library view is not used when the e-reader is in sleep or off mode. Instead a plain cover showing the mode, the book title, the file type and a double line border is used. For affected ereaders this deficiency has persisted for all subsequent versions including the most recent (3.0.1). The root problem appears to be that the cover image is not being stored on the mSD card as was done in previous versions. I believe it was Davidfor that suggested that if the cover image was on the mSD card it would be used which may be why the problem is solved for you when you use calibre.

I'm also having the MicroSD card issue. It is very irritating, to say the least. When I look at my Touch's info from the desktop app, the microSD card memory is shown. Kobo fixed, as well as other issues for me in October, and are working on it again since the update removed their fix. I will let you know if I have any luck.
