Chinese epub not showing correctly
Hello everyone, I am new to this forum.

I am looking high and low for a way to read my chinese ebook correctly on a desktop or laptop.

The original ebook is chinese characters in vertical direction. When i imported i open the epub in Calibre it becomes rotated ....please see link for image...

What i have done is to tweak the book （explode, change style sheet and rebuild book) by changing the epub writing mode from vertical to horizontal as shown below.

body {
font-family: heiti;
margin: 15 0 0;
line-height: 100%;
text-align: justify;
-epub-writing-mode: horizontal-rl;
}

This actually works...but i can only do this one book at a time...to tweak a new book every time.

Instead of having to tweak every time, I would like to have the ebook open correctly every time. I tried applying the same stylesheet shown above inside the e-book viewer user stylesheet, but unfortunately it doesnt have any effect...the other books still open incorrectly...i have to tweak one by one which is too tedious as i have more than 100 of such books...

Could anyone help me on this?

Please help, i am a newbie, have been experimenting the software but still cannot find a solution...

Do an epub to epub conversion and specify your css in the extra css conversion setting.

Yes! It works I would carry out the bulk convert to change all my books at one go Thank you so much!

Another question...Calibre took a snap shot of the 1st page of the book, convert it into jpeg file and it becomes the cover page for the book.

How could i prevent Calibre from doing this?

Add proper covers to the book records.

Warning: Only apply to books without satisfactory cover, it will replace ALL cover types
Bulk Metadata edit has a tick box to 'Generate Default Cover' (the 'Generate Cover' one you get in single mode) near the bottom of the 'General' tab on the form. If that is the only choice, then that is all will be done. << do this before conversion

There are also some useful Plugins to create other covers to use in place of the Default.

Thank you theducks sir, i tried and it works

Although it is the default Calibre cover, it looks not too bad and i can live with it

Finally i can get down to real work in reading and organizing my books!

Hi everyone,

I tried the conversion unfortunately, I still end up with the same turned characters as before in the Calibre viewer.

I sent images of various views at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=229255

I guess I am missing something
