Reading books with a Kindle Fire
If you do read books with your Kindle Fire, why have you chosen to read with a tablet instead of a dedicated ereader?

Because I only want one portable device. One that does more than a dedicated ereader is capable of.

Better contrast, more memory to hold more books.
By better contrast, I mean the whites are white and the blacks are black! Plus of course you can change to off white or whatever color scheme suits your fancy, if you use additional reading apps. Last edited by booklover6; 12-11-2013 at 09:36 AM. |

I've always been a huge eInk person. I did read a little on my Nexus 7.1, but since I've had my HDX 8.9 I've hardly touched an eInk device. I find that a combination of Calibre Companion and Moon+ Pro/Mantano (still going back & forth, haven't settled yet) with their various features are turning out to be as close to perfect as I can get right now as a reading setup. Not sure if I'll go back to my eInk devices as primary or not at this point, I'm still in the experimental stage with the HDX as a reader.

The Fire will never be my primary reading device because you cannot read in sunlight and most importantly it does not have a long enough battery life for the extensive amount of reading that I do. I read for several hours a day and I like not being tied to charging it on a daily basis. There also times when I need to read without the distractions of all the other apps/features of a tablet. |

I use the PW 2013 in bright light and the HDX 2013 in low light using white text on a black background.

I mostly read on my iPad Mini Retina or Nexus 7.2. Why?
I was so frustrated at my PW2 that I gifted it to someone. So I no longer even own an eInk reader and doubt I will ever buy another one. EInk readers only excel in daylight. I rarely read outside, so I don't see the need for one anymore. Last edited by jswinden; 12-11-2013 at 01:34 PM. |

Mostly because I want a tablet for games, something to read on, surf the web, e-mail...ect.
Instead of getting two devices, I get it all in one. I don't really have a favorite between e-ink and fire lines for reading purposes since I think they both have strengths. |

I never thought I would switch to a tablet for reading as I own four eInk Kindles but the new tablets out just surpass eINK. One it seems to be easier on my eyes. The black text is just that black and I can choose my background to read on. I can choose how bright or dark I want the screen and the text never washes out like it does with a frontlit reader.
I just love reading on a tablet and now they are light as a eReader it's makes it even more nicer experience. The text rendering is probably the biggest factor for me. I am just in awe of the Nexus 7's text rendering. You can see any pixel it's smooth and clear and crisp. Nothing I have seen on PC/device comes close to it. I've attached the N7 and KFHD2 as you can see they are very nice to read on. However my camera makes the text more bold on the KFHD2. I'm not sure why. Although my Nexus 7.2 is my go-to device (as was my Nexus 7 2012) I still prefer reading with e-ink but only because I do so with the Aura HD and its gorgeous display and high resolution. The slightly larger display, weight, customization, excellent lighting and beautiful font rendering makes it my number one ereader. I use the the Nexus 7.2 as a secondary reader, among its many other uses.
