What a sneaky marketing job!

I had bought and started reading Serial Killers by Jack Kilborn (J.A. Konrath) and Blake Crouch, it's a collection of short stories that features every serial killer in their respective books.

As I started reading the short stories I thought, wow, these are pretty good, albeit gruesome and not for the faint of heart...BUT...the stories are in chronological order. So at some point they STOP and say "The book *this* comes next", so being anal and difficult I get the book and start reading it.

Fortunately I happened to enjoy these books! And so I've now read 4 novels along with ploughing along in the short stories LOL.

Now of course they aren't required reading for these stories, but they do help you understand some of the things.

As I keep on reading and buying I just keep thinking to myself "Wow...they really hooked me and got me buying all their books with this! What a sneaky marketing job!"

And also I've got to thank them because the books I've read so far from this:

Desert Places
Locked Doors
A Shot of Tequila
Whiskey Sour

Are all pretty damn good! And I don't regret buying them!

Sneaky indeed, in essence you bought the advertising and then bought what they were selling.

They're just taking a page from the Big Six playbook. I've bought two books so far based on the free short stories that I downloaded and devoured (not Konrath/Crouch in this case, but same sort of occurrence).

How genius! As a "completest" I would have to lock away my bank card so as to not go completely broke.

Yeah, I didn't do that LOL. I bought the 6-pack for like $28 for JA Konrath, and the Blake Crouch books are just twisted.

These Jaquline "jack" Daniels books by JA Konrath are fantastic, and very fast reads! There are supreme LOL moments mixed in with things that just make you want to cringe from the descriptions.

There's a similar thing for historical mysteries called The Medieval Murderers.

Basically a bunch of historical mystery authors each had a short story about their detectives, all basically around the same mystery, but following it chronologically through time.

I think there are a few of them, the one I read dealt with King Arthur's (purported) bones, the ones supposedly found at Glastonbury
