ebook-tweak
I am very sorry if this is very obvious, but I was out of the forum for quite a while and surely missed a lot.
Here is my question:
Today, after updating calibre to the latest version (1.14), I noticed a new tool called "ebook-tweak.exe" (it’s windows around here ). I do not seem to be able to invoke it from calibre so apparently is an stand- alone epub tool. Can someone point me to some resource on how to use it? Is it suppose to be some sort of replacement of Sigil?

Or right click the book you want to get a context menu and select Tweak Book.

It's brand new and still at beta (or maybe even alpha) stage. You can read more about its progress here. It is, indeed, calibre's move to providing a fully integrated book editor.

To get access to it via the standard calibre GUI, for the time being, you need to do more than 'select book & press T'. First you will need to go to Prefs - Tweaks - Plugin tweaks, change the relevant option to test_tweak_book = True then restart calibre. Once you've done this 'select book & press T' will give you the new beta Ebook Tweak rather than the standard tweaker.

Alternatively you can use ebook-tweak.exe like any other Windows program to open epubs (and azw3s???) outside the calibre GUI, just like you can use ebook-viewer.exe to read epubs etc.

Well, I also see the Tweak-book.exe but when I run it what I get differs totally from both the Ctr t and the right click context menu. In those cases the ebook is expanded and a file explorer is opened, where I am supposed to use an html editor. The Tweak-book.exe , however IS an editor, but it has no help that I know of.

Probably not. Unless Kovid adds a tweak to allow you to use it.

It's still available, it has been renamed to Unpack Book, you can go to Preferences->Toolbars and add it to wherever you like.

Thanks a lot for the answers and many more to the developers. I’ve been toying a bit with this new tool. I don’t know of alpha or beta version, only thing I can tell it is impressive. Forget the manual. If one ever used Sigil or some similar tool, there should be no big problems finding your way around.
But this is not Sigil; it is much much better. I predict that this tool will become the ebook editing standard.
Only, please consider a more appealing / catchy name.

It's name is calibre, what's wrong with that?

The internal name that the code references to activate specific features is entirely irrelevant, the program's street name is still calibre.
