Anyone using Onyx Boox for developing?

Hi everyone,

I'm a PHP dev with serious eye strain issues.

I was thinking about getting an Onyx Boox to use it as a PC monitor when developing... how would you rate this idea from "terribly stupid" to "pretty awesome"?
Why?
Anyone tried doing something similar already?

Thanks!

sifro, I'm using my M92 this way. Nothing odd.

@sifro, since I'm using mostly command line for development, I'm really happy with Obuntu+synergy combo. It's way faster than vnc plus it's easier to configure. Also, if you need to run any of "host" programs ( ide, perhaps ) you can forward it using reverse ssh with x forwarding.

xdmx is worth considering too.

edit:

It's even faster with usb-networking

I am a bachelor undergraduate in Computer Science and I have been using m92 for more than a year now. I was also a bit hesitant about the refresh rate and the rendering of code etc.

This is probably one of the best buys I ever made. Since I bought it, I didn't have to pay a penny for a book. I just download all the books I need.

The refresh rate is annoying only in the case that you want to close and open new books all the time. Otherwise it's not a hustle and you get used to it in the end.

The battery lifetime, the screen size, the absence of eye-strain and the ability to get new books all the time for free are huge pluses for me and I would not go back to paper books. I look at my bookcase and I am thinking what a waste of space and money all my books are taking. Soon I will sell them.

PS: I have used the ebook for biology, neuroscience, programming, Linux terminal, networking books etc.

Hi pithikos, i'm not sure we understood each other: i'm planning to develop with the M92, not just read books about programming, that's why i was so concerned about the refresh rate

Hi, i'm very interested in your experience of developping with M92. But i have several questions :
- When you use Synergy, you share your keyboard and mouse to control computer and M92. But what are you using to share your files ? Do you use an ftp server ?
- Is it possible to use Obuntu as a secondary screen ? It will be perfect to use an IDE on your computer and open some files on M92 for editing ! Is it the aim of xdmx ?

For all people who develop on M92, could you explain what method you use and with what software ?

Thanks a lot and congratulation for your work!

Oops! I guess I fastread that

Still though.. I think I could rate your idea as I am also a dev.
From a personal perspective I think the idea is bad(just being critical).

I think the only way you could use any screen with such low fps would be for solely output of data. However in PHP you don't have compilation or anything like that which would spit errors directly in a console, at least not from what I am aware of. If you are thinking to replace the PC monitor then I guess you expect to use your IDE from the ebook. That is a terrible idea. I mean.. typing errors will take so much time to spot. I am not sure how seaniko7 manages but to me it sounds like a nightmare. Why not instead try to lower the contrast of your desktop and change the colour scheme of your OS to something blackish?
