Calibre: Would it help me? *My situation*
Hi all, I only found out about Calibre a coupe days ago from a member on here. My device is a Sony E-Reader PRS-T2.
Currently, I use my Sony PRS-T2 to just read e-pub ebooks and I use the built in Evernote functionality to highlight quotes I like and send it into the Evernote 'cloud' where the quotes are sent to my secondary Evernote account where I cannot accidentally edit the quotes. I use the Evernote system a lot on my PRS-T2. These are my only needs when I use the Sony PRS-T2 so I just wanted to know if I could gain any benefits from switching to Calibre. Can I still use Evernote as I outlined within Calibre? I'm really happy with my current setup and Calibre seems difficult to setup. Is there any reason for me to switch to Calibre if I'm happy with my current solution? Thank you for any help! |

Why not try it, and report back. It won't cost you anything. Most likely you would like to see how usable Evernote for the desktop is along with calibre.
That said the main benefit from calibre is not to replace your current solution but to help you make your books metadata consistent, find attractive covers and make it easier to upload books to your device. Also very good if you need to convert between formats. Also calibre is great as a backup of the books you have on your device. If you use books with DRM, then calibre is not a suitable tool. For books without DRM calibre can also function as a reader app for your desktop. Last edited by Adoby; 11-09-2013 at 06:55 AM. |

Using the Sony software in addition to Evernote has been working out really great and I'm happy with my current solution, but everyone keeps telling me to use Calibre... |

Well, you probably should if you are into ebooks, but that has nothing to do with Evernote.

People very often want to justify their own decision to use product 'X' by convincing others to use product 'X'. Its a trait that's encouraged by the culture of social media - think sheep and Judas goats, lemmings going over a cliff, mortgage bubbles etc. Don't buy (even if its only your time) into a solution for which you don't a problem that needs fixing. Would you take pharmaceuticals for a medical condition you didn't have? File what you've learnt about Calibre in your memory bank, in future you might have a need which it can address. BR |

Alright, thanks.
So would using Calibre affect the way I use Evernote? What would it change in regard to me uploading highlighted quotes to Evernote? |

Evernote would be totally independent of any functions of calibre.

Edit: If it replaced the software on my PRS-T2, I wouldn't be able to upload my quotes to Evernote. Last edited by EbookNovice; 12-02-2013 at 12:28 AM. |

Calibre would most likely replace some of the software on your PC. Nothing on the e-reader.
Calibre would make it easy to get books from many different sources and in many different formats, since you can easily rename, convert and rearrange as you please, using calibre. I don't use Evernote, and don't have a Sony e-reader, so I don't know if calibre will change anything regarding how you use Evernote with the e-reader. I suspect not. If you still are curious, why not test it? Calibre is free to download and use. There is a separate forum for Sony e-reader owners. You could perhaps get better answers there? Perhaps there even already are some answers there for you? https://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=100 Also I tried to Google "Evernote calibre" and there seems to be many Evernote users that also like and use calibre along with Evernote. It seems that there even is a forum at Evernote, that could also be a good place to ask about how to use calibre with Evernote? Last edited by Adoby; 12-02-2013 at 02:55 AM. |

So you can use the Sony software for whatever you get from it, and use calibre for whatever you get from it - a great deal more in my experience. Just do not have them both open at the same time. |
