Possible to autosync--AND DOWNLOAD--between my phone and mac?

I've tried both Calibre Sync and Calibre Companion apps for android and they both can connect to Calibre on my Macbook and detect my books there, but I still have to download them onto my phone. Within these apps I see auto-connect options which all work perfectly, but nothing that automatically downloads books from my mac to my phone.

Basically I want what ibooks (via iTunes) is able to do, just keep the collections in sync across the board. I get the feeling I CAN do this with Calibre but I haven't figured out how yet.

Not to appear lazy, but I have hundreds of books I'd like to keep in sync between my mac and my Samsung Galaxy Note 2. If I have to download each and every new book, it kind of defeats the purpose of auto connect if the process just stops there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated -- thanks in advance!!

I don't use CC. I save all my books to a folder on a NAS, using a connection to a folder as a device, from calibre. I do this whenever I update my books or add new books to my collection.

Then on my device I run an app, FolderSync, that automatically keeps a folder on my device synced to the folder on the NAS. The app only attempts to sync if I am charging my device, or if I request it.

Other options include various cloud services, if you don’t have a NAS that is on 24/7.

Currently I have around 3800 books, in slightly less than 10 GB, kept in sync this way. Since the app syncs, only new or changed books will transfer each sync, so it is typically very fast. If I make updates to many books I may send the whole library. That can take a while, but it's done while I charge my device while I am sleeping.

I still have to tell my reading app to update the bookshelf on the device.

Calibre does not support the kind of syncing you are asking for. It does support metadata syncing, which is a large part of the problem.

You can probably get most of what you want with the reading list plugin (RL). RL will automatically send books on a "reading list" to a device when that device connects. IIRC it can also delete books from the device. When you add the book to calibre or change the book format (not the metadata) in calibre, you would also add the book to the reading list. The next time you connect, RL will send the books.

New books are easy even without RL. Simply connect the device then search for on_device:false to get a list of books that are not on the device. Highlight them all and send them. This plus the automatic metadata sync feature of CC will get all changes to the device except when you change the book format (the actual text of the book).

I do this search via the Smarteject Plugin. When I go to eject it shows me any books in my library that are not on the device. Then I select and send them to the Device.

Thanks guys! Guess I'll give the reading list plugin a try since that seems to come the closest to what I'm looking for.

My method is different. Load a few books to device, read them, then the next time device is connected, remove the read books from device.

For me dealing with books on device was awkward when I had just a hundred books on device. My library hub is in calibre on computer, not on any of various temporary devices.
