Speed of Internal uSD Card?
Before starting to experiment with the Kobo Touch, I decided to clone the internal card - just in case. I used Win32-ImageWriter to read the original card and then I copied the image into two other cards. (One is an old Sony with no class marking, and the other a new Strontium card marked "class 6").
Both the clones work in the device, but they are noticeably slow compared to the original card. So my question is -- what specification of card should I look for to get the original performance? Could it be that the problem is with the formatting process done by Win32-Imagewriter (I read "on the net" that the formatting parameters can make a big difference to the actual speed of SDs). I have one more question but I think I will post it with its own title. Thanks Swamp Thing |

I had good results replacing the 2GB Sandisk card that was in my Glo with an 8GB class 4 Sandisk card. There was no difference in speed that I could detect.

Check the List of Tweaks / Hacks / Mods thread for the entry "SD Card Performance - some discussions and info" for some links to discussions on SD Cards. Just because a card IS a higher SD card level does not mean it will be faster in a device.

Samsung and Sandisk both seem to perform well showing little if any of the loss of small block performance for the class 10 and above cards. Still, if you can find any of their class 4 SDHC cards, they might be cheaper.

Thanks, all.
I copied the 2 GB image into an 8GB uSDHC (10x) and it works well, and runs as fast as the original card (which I have saved carefully in the box). My next point in the learning curve will be to partition it so the unused capacity becomes available. Thanks again. |
