1- Can I access the internet in my home? 2- Can it read pdf's not bought in the store (since I won't be able to register) 3- Can it be updated? 4- Since Google Play is now available can I download apps from there? Thanks in advance. |

Yes to all!
You can register it. Just put in any email address. No need to put in any credit card details since you won't be able to buy anything from BN anyway. I'm in Sweden and even though I'm not writing this on the HD+ I could have done it! |

Thanks! I thought you had to be in the US to register but thank god it's not the case.

You can buy from B&N if you use a US address for your account (just Google a public library or something) and use a VPN like Tunnelbear or Spotflux etc when you log in. Once you have bought the item, it will download onto the HD+.
I had no problems at all buying from B&N for my HD+ this way, although I am not 100% if you'd run into a problem if you used an overseas credit card. I use a debit card and sometimes sites will accept those when they wont accept an overseas credit card. If this was to happen, you would get around it by purchasing B&N gift cards online and using those to buy your books or apps. Also keep an eye out for the free book and app given away every Friday as these have no global restrictions at all. I can 'buy' these from another country even without a VPN. Which does lead me to believe they do track your location via your credit card. |

If you register your B&N account with an US shipping and billing address, you can use your non-US credit card without a problem.

I also use my HD+ in Central America with no problems. I registered mine with B&N using my US address and credit card but don't buy much from them, only a couple of magazine subscriptions. Google Play apps are available to me. Also, I have a US-based Amazon account and use the Kindle for Android app to buy and read ebooks. It works great on my HD+.
You may want to consider rooting or using a dual boot SD card such as those from AFN or N2A to run a stock Android OS. Doing so will give you even more functionality as well as better performance. |

My BN account has a US address both as billing and shipping. I am NOT however able to use my Swedish credit card to purchase books or apps, even when in USA. So it does not work with all non US cards. I don't consider it a problem though since I prefer to get apps from Google and magazines from Zinio so I can use them on other devices.
There are also plenty of other places to get books and magazines. I only go for Nooks because I like the hardware, not because I want to shop from BN. |

The way my Costa Rican issued Visa and MasterCard work is that by default the banks here issue national cards which can't be used overseas but on request they will switch them over to international cards which work worldwide.
Also, I use a US-based mail/package forwarding service with a Miami street address and PO Box and my Cost Rican banks have added those addresses as additional billing addresses to my cards. Although I generally purchase from Amazon and B&N using my US bank card, I've made purchases from both (and from other sellers in the US) using my Costa Rican bank cards and have never had a problem except that sometimes, due to my overseas IP address, I'm required to verify the cards to avoid potentially fraudulent use. |

The Goodereader blog posted a new article yesterday about using the Nook HD and HD+ outside the US. It's fairly brief but may contain useful info for some: http://goodereader.com/blog/tablet-s...utside-the-usa

Just to be clear.
People living in Canada do not have to use an US VPN (because some ebooks are available for Canada, Canadian IP-addresses are allowed). People living outside Canada have to use an US VPN to get an US IP-address. |

I think it may also be how the issuing banks handle things. I don't know how come, but one of my credit cards work for buying hardware at BN, but not other things. The same at Walgreens who normally don't accept non US cards. One works, the other doesn't. I just shrug and use the one that works and don't think too much about it. (The other one is my main card and it works everywhere else so it's not a block on the card. It's just those two places. )
