Glo or Aura

Ok, so I have the Mini, love the little reader, and after configuring the Calibre plugin I am absolutely hooked (though still use my Kindle.....am I allowed to say that word here? Kindle?).

Anyway I'm still in the non-frontlight group of people and am really wanting to get a frontlit reader. I found a Glo locally for $159 with a free Kobo EasyOut Pocket ($159 seems to be the normal price, nowhere really cheaper when you add the cost of freight). But the device is 12+ months old, and now the Aura is out.

Screens are different, similar internal specs though. Is the Glo still worthwhile to purchase now given how long it has been out (and run the risk of little future support), or would the Aura be a better buy?

Anyone owned both able to give an opinion on preference?

It's listed as $134 at HB Outlet - I'd recommend seeing if JB or Officeworks will price-match.

ETA: Oh, and yes, the Glo is very much still a solid and usable device! It doesn't seem to have the "pinhole" light guide defects that are dogging some Auras and it runs the latest firmware.

I personally found too many quality control issues with the Aura. I returned three and gave up.

If you are willing to shell out just a bit more, the Aura HD has the best screen on offer and I've had no issues with it.

It really is a personal matter. Only you can know how you feel about them.

The light on the Glo is good but no as even as the Aura's. In the early stages it was bluish and too bright to some to read in a dark room. Later the Glo got a yellowish light and apparently it's not as bright as it used to be.
Yet the Glo is the first gen. lighted kobo ereader, whereas the Aura is of the second gen. (if it's the same as the Aura HD, otherwise it could be third gen.).
Another difference is in the screen: IR for the Glo, capacitive for the Aura.

Depending on how important those differences are for you, one or the other can meet more your needs.

I bought my Glo about 7 months ago, and the light is very even on it. There's none of the blotchiness that Kindles can have or any hue to the color. It's just a nice even white. I only need to leave it on 30% or so and that works well for me in all light situations I read in, so I never have to bother adjusting it.

That's not to say they're 100% perfect now and you couldn't pick up one with a uneven light display. That's the main reason I found a bookstore so I could buy locally in case it had to be returned.

I love my Glo. I haven't had any problems with the light, either in blotchieness or being uneven. My light is a bit blueish but I actually like that.

As a side note, maybe it's time to update your list of devices that shows up in these forums? You mention your Kindles but no Kobo's.
