Fans of Paper White 2
I keep seeing many people in various threads who seem to not like the new paper white 2, is there anyone out there that has one of the new models who likes it better then the original?

I think that many people will probably object to the use of the word "fan", JB. I enjoy using my PW2, but I'm not a fanatic; it's merely a tool to read with.
I do prefer it to the PW1. |

I've read the comments about the PW2 and I don't agree. I would say a majority of users prefer it over the PW1. PW2 manufacture quality-control does seem to be a bit hit-and-miss, so if you get one you are unhappy with, try another one. My purely subjective feeling is that a third to a quarter of PW2s are perfect, a third to a quarter are seriously flawed, and the rest are somewhere in between. Personally, I'd wait a bit. Quality control will improve over time.

I like my PW 2013 and think its screens show better contrast between the fonts and background than the PW 2012. Of course, contrast is a perception and some may not agree.

Contrast is not a perception; it's an objective quantity measured using an instrument called a photometer. If you look at eInk's web site, you'll find the contrast of each type of screen they manufacture expressed numerically.

I prefer the my PW2 to my PW1. I've owned most of the eink Kindle models, and each new model has been an improvement in my eyes.

I prefer my PW2 to my PW1. I like its speed, I like the options, and I prefer the cream color of the display.

First let me start off by saying I am not as technical or critical as many of the posters regarding the specs of either the PW1 or PW2. With that said, I like my PW2 better than the PW1 because the page refresh is much improved and I do not have the occasional page jumping which I did with the PW1. Also, the speed seems to be a little bit better. On the PW1 I had the four little dots on the bottom of the screen from the light, while that did not bother me at all, not having them there removes that minor annoyance. I also like the flip page, which is something I use a lot with my series reading because I jump through series instead of reading them all together. Having that flip page allows me to refer back to info I may have forgotten. Saving bookmarks is not as one step as they were on the PW1 so I like that better than this two tap thing you now have to do. Though I will say this is better is you've mistakenly tapped into a bookmark spot. Other than that, they are really just the same. I am sure there are many other features they differ in but they are not features I use regularly, so I am not concerned with them. We will see if the PW2 earns its keep once the GoodReads Integration and Cloud Collections goes live.

Interesting
Can you direct me to a link showing the numerical contrast measurements for the PW 2012 and the PW 2013? It would be fascinating to know those numbers.

I definitely prefer the PW2 to the PW1. It's nice to use a device and not see a rainbow on it like I saw on my PW1. I also love the new software additions too. Plus it's faster.

PW2 is definitely better than the PW1 in my eyes. I still read on both.
For what it is worth, I am not a fan of any brand or product. As one can see in the devices I own, I like to spread around the wealth. With that said, I hope that I am still eligible to respond to this thread. ![]() |

I vastly prefer my PW2 to my PW1.
Overall, the only things I miss from my PW1 are the things that require a jailbreak, like the screensaver hack and JBpatch. And custom fonts, but at least embedding is an option to work around that. |
