Any Thoughts on Scheduling Teaching and Writing
I just switched my teaching schedule to all days (where I was teaching days and nights before) and I am planning on opening up my schedule to more writing and reading not related to my job. I will have 120 writing students this quarter, and I want to be a great educator while still having time to produce my work, as well as have time for my family and friends, and some down time. (I did not have these problems when I was working in the corporate world.)
This past year I let teaching take over everything. And I don’t want to repeat that. So I am asking you all if you have any personal habits that help you set time aside for your own writing work. Waiting until summer is not an option as I do not have summers off (or rather cannot afford to take them off). Thank you in advance for your thoughts and contributions. |

I try to write whenever I can fit it in -- assuming I have worked out an idea. For me, that mostly means after everyone else in the house has gone to bed. It helps that I'm a night owl.

Another night owl here. The most reliable way I find time is to sacrifice sleep, though when taken to extremes (says he while yawning) it doesn't help with productivity (writing or otherwise). When things are going particularly well I have been known to borrow writing time from other obligations, but that usually means paying them back by missing more sleep.
