How did you measure the garbage to be collected? Is there any real data (not speculation) to deduce advantages of forcing garbage collection?

Creating a few erase-block sizes of swap file and enabling it will do you far more good.
128Mbyte or 256Mbyte will do just fine.

towbob has shown that, when he native compiles such monsters as libwebkit-gtk.

"Garbage collecting" before opening Koreader would bring some benefits and lower the crash/rate due to memory lack

I wonder if enabling swap partition could give some benefits/noticeable improvements also in everyday use or only compiling... It's a nice idea, the problem of this approach is mainly the waste of memory, that is already few (on Kindle PW at least)

P.S. anyway know something about forcing the garbage collection still interest me

So, what part of memory contains garbage to be collected? Do you have any exact numbers besides speculations out of good intentions? Maybe there is no garbage at all?

Nice points. I can't recall exactly how much memory is freed by garbage collecting now... IIRC I managed to see the GC in action one time only

I know something else, don't know if this could help... Before launching Midori browser, I had 5 megabyte of free memory, after launching it showed 50 megabyte... I'd would like to reproduce this kind of behaviour without having to open/close an app. I've tryied with DebugOn logging but can't spot exactly what does happen in this cases.

If it sounds quite pointless, sorry about that, it was just an idea...

Not sure if you can trigger cvm to GC at arbitrary points. You could use cvmsh, but I reckon from a short glance at available documentation that cvm must be have compile-time configuration for this tool.
