PW-2 Wifi Issue
Hello guys,
I jailbreaked my PW-2 several months ago and everything worked fine. Now I'm having a wifi issue and I don't know why. This in FW 5.8.7 I can't find any wifi networks anymore. I tried to reboot but nothing happens. Only enters in 3G mode. I updated to 5.8.8 and the issue remains. Sometimes after reboot a lot of times the wifi network appears. I also tried to delete the wifi passwords in system options but has an error saying I can't do it at the moment. Any ideas? |

It's funny but maybe there's a conflict between kindle and KOreader internet. When I put in plain mode and go to KOreader, and turn on wifi from there, if I return to kindle setting I can see my wifi networks. Other way I cannot see any networks. If a put in plain mode again and then turn wifi on, there's no wifi networks anymore.
I really don't know what's going on. |

We'll keep it open, but please continue to post your issue(s) here, rather than going back-and-forth in two threads.
Thanks. ![]() Don (Moderator) |

My thoughts:
Install rescue pack + cowards rescue pack. Perform a factory reset, see if that fixes the wifi. If it doesn't, amazon has to fix it. If it DOES fix it, then connect in w/ SSH, and reinstall the developer key & run/install the jailbreak fix. |

Moved to the developers' forum, given that you're asking questions about dev stuff.

So I didn`t factory reset my kindle yet. Just installer the rescue pack and USBnetwork hack to test SSH connection. But I can`t connect at all. When I enable the hack in rescue menu (Enable USBnet) my computer keep looking for an network to connect then it just fails. It can`t recognize as an network adapter. I`m on linux.

Which of our tutorials on setting up ssh are you following?
By link please. Do you have Connections Manager enabled on your computer? If so, disable it. When you plug in the USB cable, does the computer display the Kindle's storage area? When you change the USBnetworking mode with KUAL menu, do you have the USB cable unplugged? If so, you should be getting a message to un-plug it before changing USB mode. |

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh....php?p=3283986 Ok. I made a discovery about the Wifi issue. It's a kindle software problem. I factory reset my PW2 on 5.8.8 and the issue remained. And I thought wft is going on??? Then I followed this tutorial to downgrade to 5.4.3.2: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=272132 And my wifi was back! I can see more than 36 networks in my apartment (Yes I have a lot of neighbors and everyone has a router). Everything was fine I tested it for 1 hour putting on and off the wifi and restarting, no wifi issue. So I decided to update to 5.8.7 to see what can happen. Damn! The wifi issue was back! The wifi was very intermittent and the most time it scanned zero networks! Downgraded to 5.8.5 and same thing. 5.6.5 and same issue. It only worked fine on 5.4.3.2 FW and I don't know why! Just returned to 5.8.7 since I had the wifi working in this FW in the past. I left my apartment and went to the next floor upstairs and... the wifi worked! I went to other floor in the building and worked fine, it can scan a lot of wifi networks! Wtf?! I returned to my home and left my router powered down to see if the problem was my network. Nothing, my kindle refuses to work at my home! Zero network scans! I'm pretty sure the problem is not my network because I can see it if I left my floor if my router is on. I don't know why my kindle can't scan networks inside my apartment the most of time. It can scans if I keep trying and trying. But in FW 5.4.3.2 I had no issues. That's why the problem MUST be the kindle's software with the more than one wireless network with the same name, or wherever. I will attached the networks scans I made with inssider SW in my home. If anyone figured out whats the problem, I can contact Amazon and see if them can fiz this issue in the next firmware update. Thanks to all! |

There's a lot of wifi networks with the same nnid and different channels. Maybe kindle cannot handle this?

Your list does not show what type of connection protection each is using.
And you did not mention what type you have your home ap set for. Not all Kindle firmwares handle all types of Wifi protection. the details have varied over the years, I don't recall the details but am sure they are described either here or in the Wiki. I would like to know, step by step, how you downgraded from 5.8.8 That would be very useful information for you to share. |

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=272132 It just worked. I downgrade first to 5.4.3.2 then I installed the jail break again using steps from your jb thread. About my home network type I have is an g/n mixed. But is working because I can connect with kindle if I go outside my home! When I back I'm still connected. But if I put on airplain mode on and off, I can't find any network inside mt home. I need to get out and then connect again, outside my home. That's why I'm pretty sure some neighbor network are interfering on my kindle in FW above 5.4.3.2. All the wifi network in the attached list has a channel, networks from channel 1 to 11 can be b/g/n mixed. I don't have a spectrum analyzer to see for sure. It's very annoying you can't see any wifi network inside your home. I's like a Faraday cage! And very strange I can see all them on 5.4.3.2 FW. |
