Red face Gift for mom...

Hello,
My first post on this forum

I use my Android tablet to read ebooks/pdf. I have a Kindle and a Kobo account and I like flexibility of switching "Book provider" as I feel.

I am now confronted to a small problem. My dad asked me to find an ebook reader for Christmas for my mom... She can't handle a tablet. Actually, she could but it would put me on the spot as a 24/7 tech support for all the problems and questions that would arise with that kind of device . Since she needs only the ebook functionality, and the budget my dad gave me is not enough for a good tablet, I now need to face the truth : I have no idea how to chose an ebook reader!

This is where you guys come into play!

#1 : She read only french book so the french selection is very important (I read mostly English book so my knowledge of the french selection on the Kindle or Kobo stores is close to zero)
#2 : She will mostly be reading inside but I'm sure she will bring the device on vacation and read on the beach with a tasty rum punch
#3 : She is over 65 and wear reading glasses so mini readers are out...
#4 : Budget for the purchase is around 150$ (Canadian)
#5 : I love my mom so I want here to have the best she can!

Considering all this, any suggestion would be nice!
Thank you everyone!

Maybe Aura HD then ?

I'm not sure about what books are available in canada. In France, seams about the same between amazon and kobo, but with geo-restriction ?

I'm a fan of Amazon Kindle for English language readers because it has the best selection and prices for ebooks in English but I don't know if Kobo or others may be better for Canadians who want to read in French. Amazon.ca seems to have a good selection of books in French but I'm not familiar with other ebook vendors in Canada.

This article claims that Kobo has a much larger selection of books in French than does Amazon: http://www.teleread.com/paul-biba/ho...otr-kowalczyk/

My choice would be the Kindle Paperwhite if you're satisfied with content selection and prices for French language books in the Amazon.ca Kindle store.

Not sure if that's true or not anymore, it could be. Just keep in mind that article was written before Amazon had a separate Canadian Kindle store so things might be different now.

I'd tend to agree. Especially if Mom's not "technical" at all. The Kindle's (& Amazon's website) are the most user friendly for non-tech folks IMO. Not that the Aura HD is a bad choice either, just the overall experience might not be as user friendly for her.

Might be helpful?

Thumbs up Thanks!

Thanks for those reply. It looks like I was on the right track.
Kindle Paperwhite or Kobo Aura HD...
I'll do some browsing on each store (Kindle/Kobo) to see the selection. Is the overall "shopping" experience the same on a reader than on a tablet?

Found that nice review/compare of the Paperwhite vs Aura HD. Video at the bottom of the page.
