Unless one is doing a gender-based study on gendered fiction, I find there is no need or reason to differentiate reading preferences based upon gender, and could care less if the writer is male or female.

Of course, if the writer is a baboon, mule, or monkey, I might be inclined to prefer one over the other - but I first would have to see writing samples in order to make that kind of decision.

Also, since the OP is talking about more than one author, perhaps a plural would be more fitting?

It is the book that matters. Perhaps a better label would be "Historical Romance" or "Romance with historical elements"?
I started reading more about a year ago and one thing that stands out to me is that romance has invaded nearly every other genre. In some cases it has nearly taken over. I find that many books labeled Historical Fiction are really romance novels in a historical setting. I've picked up one or two fantasy series which started out as fantasy but by the third book or so had turned into a romance in a fantasy setting. Nearly all of these books were written by women. Perhaps I've made unfortunate choices but from what I've seen women seem more likely to introduce a strong romantic element. If that is true, then perhaps the author's sex is a consideration.

Well, in general I read more of the historical fictions by female authors since they are normally about some historical female characters and there's a bit of the romantic feel to it (not the cheap romance/bodice ripping style though - hence I don't call them romance).

Historical fictions by male authors normally deal with wars, battlefields or politics which are not my cup of tea. I am trying to be specific so that people who don't have much time to browse through every single thread can just click on a topic if they find it fit their taste. In general I don't browse through threads with just "historical fiction" since majority of the books will be about wars/naval/military battlefields.

By the way, could some mods please delete the thread if you find it offensive? I just try to help.

I think this is a somewhat legitimate distinction. I would have preferred if the thread title had been something like "Historical fiction about women."

If everyone thought that way this would be a better world, IMHO.

However, growing up with one or the other sets of plumbing can, and often does, provide a very different view of life, our culture, and those with the other set of plumbing.

I don't think this perspective is something I'd want to pursue, specifically, but I can understand why others might.

I agree with your last paragraph completely. As a woman I prefer to read from a woman's perspective and there is nothing wrong with the title of your thread. It is to cater to women not men. Not many males out there get the way a female minds works so they don't focus on what's important to us.

Now I have to comment on your romance remark, Romance novels are not cheap just because they focus on the intensity or chemistry between a couple first and the plot second, they cater to a certain female audience like myself who like to read about how a couple falls in love and gets their HEA. Not all romances even have sex or focus on that part. Just look at Traditional Regency Romance or Inspirational Romance for example.

Also Bodice Rippers are a thing of the past. Bodice Rippers were from the 70s to late 80s. Too many people misuse that term and it's not right. Today we have cookie cutter mistoricals to read. Very few authors write a true historical romance novel now days. Alot of female romance writers have switched to writing Historical Fiction because the publisher wont let them write a true historical romance. They are force to write mistoricals or wallpaper historical that are so fairy tale with its inaccuracies I called them contemporaries in long dresses. Due to the change in this genre I only read older historical romance books or historical fiction with romantic elements in it.
