Hello from Australia

I am an ageing writer who has far too many more books still in him and too little patience to waste time arguing with visionless idiot nervous-nellie publishers, so after a lifetime of writing for burnt-stick and dead-tree physical books, I am doing the rest of my books as e-books, which I plan to self-publish through the Australian Society of Authors.

I am currently using Word 2003 to write, saving the result as HTML, converting to epub with Calibre, and then finessing the product in Sigil before gouing back to Calibre to generate mobi and odf files. I have joined this forum because I am encountering some interesting problems, getting tables, Greek symbols like (pi) and illustrations to behave. They work in some readers, but not in others.

I will get past the stage of being regarded as a potential spammer, and then launch into the technicalities.

My real name is Peter Macinnis: I might as well admit that, because McManly is a totally insecure and transparent handle. I live in Sydney, and I write mainly about either science, technology or history, but I am highly unpredictable.

I have also been messing with computers since 1963, so I am quite adept at creative computing and herding cats. I firmly believe that there are no rules in a knife fight or when subduing unruly computers.

I will happily share my tricks, and I hope to find others who will do the same.
