Storing MP3 files in Calibre

I've just accidentally done a drag and drop of some MP3 files onto Calibre, rather than onto iTunes as I intended, and much to my surprise it stored them, correctly read the "Author" and "Title" from the ID3 tags, and plays them (using my default MP3 player) when I open them. Is this a new feature, or merely one of the numerous features that Calibre's always had that I keep discovering?

No - it's a straight "out of the box" Calibre. The only non-standard plugins I have are "those that must not be named".

Actually, though, it may have simply been displayed the filenames and not reading ID3 tags. I was just surprised that it stored and played the files at all.

Yep, you can can drop almost anything into the calibre book list and 'view' it via the O/S.

Even some .exe's will 'stick' e.g. games. You can't drop a video, mp3 or game into an existing book - but you can merge them

No plugins needed.
