Filter Adult Content on Kobo Website?
Is there any way to filter out adult content on the Kobo website? I'm no prude but some of the stuff that comes up is... wow. I don't want it to come up in my searches. Any way to do that?

Some searches have erotica as a separate category when you search on them: See http://store.kobobooks.com/en-CA/Cat...qkGJjadF625rNg. You can choose another category and not see erotica.
I have also excluded erotica by searching this way. "search term"-erotica, for example, "bundles"-erotica. It is important that there be no spaces at all. If you mistakenly type "bundles" -erotica, you will get a very, ummm, unusual (to me at least) listing of books. The people at Kobo are aware that this is an issue. Whether this translates into a speedy fix may be another story. |

The publishers, not sellers like Kobo, choose the descriptors/meta data that become categories and search terms. Porn is not a label they are going to add, or Kobo (or any other mainstream seller) is going to have as a choice, given the legal issues.

Well they may run into issues when someone looking for erotica is faced with porn. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I see it as two categories.

This annoys me, especially as I have read a few risque novels and now have the "related to X" tile displaying nude book covers on my home screen. I don't even want to guess how many times I am going to have to go through and click "not interested" before the meta tags for my account takes the hint.

Thank you for the help, taming!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who's having this problem. Hopefully Kobo will notice this thread. |

Keslynn, one of the things that is most helpful is to click on eBooks and then note the category drop down on the right. Click on "romance" and you will see that there are a number of subcategories.
My take on this is that porn as a category does not exist. There is "romance" and romance has several subcategories, including contemporary romance (which is what some folks might go so far as to call "mommy porn") and various others. Then there is "erotica" which can be a thing unto itself, but is also a subcategory of romance. |

I did notice the categories under romance. I just didn't know if there was a way to exclude a subcategory. I like several different varieties of romance so it would be easier to exclude the Erotica category than to browse each subcategory separately. I hope that made sense.

On the plus side, I do know that they are working hard to get this right. This area has really bothered me and I developed very strong opinions about it. I recently wrote to Kobo senior staff working in this specific area and it sure seems like it is a very high priority for them. Time will tell. |

I'm far from prudish, but I think some built in filtering in the Kobo software that would be password based would be very helpful for parents wishing to provide kids with a reader and protect them at the same time. I'm rather surprised that Kobo hasn't some sort of content filtering in place already. OTOH, I suppose they might benefit from a "better" class of smut if they're reading it rather than only looking at the pictures... debatable, to be sure.

The reponse (second one) from KOBO about complaining about porn. The response felt puerile and denigrating at the same time. Maybe they can go for a hat trick.
