book won't load onto my Kobo
Hi, there....new member here.
Just wondering....I've got a Kobo, and use Calibre on my computer. I've got many, many books on my Kobo and never had a problem loading titles onto it. Until now. There's just one book that WON'T load onto it for love nor money. I've downloaded it, and send it to my device...but when I unplug the device, it's not on it. It's still in my Library, but unchecked (as on device). Every other book loads fine...except that one particular title. When I press View, I can read it no problem.. It's certainly not a big deal...but a little vexing. Any thoughts as to a possible reason for this?? Thanks. |

Try using Calibre to convert the file into E-pub (Even though it already is) and then loading it onto your Kobo™

as The Terminator suggests, i find the best success in just reconverting into epub with Calibre any titles that refuse to play nice

Yeah...tried it. No go.
Not to worry, it's the only one I've ever had an issue with. But it's annoying, because it's the sequel to a novel that I quite enjoyed. Ah well, I'll hit the bookstore or something. |

I've got my Dad's Kobo with the same problem. It's all updated to 1.9.12, Calibre was at the latest edition and everything. You send the books to the KT, Calibre shows that they're there, if you go to Windows and look at the device they're there but as soon as you turn the KT on, nothing shows up. Insanely frustrating!
Any ideas? |

You could check the date and time on the reader and the modified date of the epub files

I got round the problem by going into the folder called Calibre Library in Finder on the Mac (and I presume there is something similar on a Windows machine), opened the Library and then double-clicked on the Kobo icon showing on screen so I could see its stored books. Then I simply did a drag and drop of the books I wanted to load onto the KT. I pulled the whole folder across, containing the text, cover and whatever else is there as part of the book. I did this a couple of days ago and whether it jolted something into working better I don't know, but last night I loaded about six books from Mobile Read e-books and they went across first time. Hope that helps and good luck! |

Thanks for the advice. I finally just took it back down to the bare system. Lost his books that he was reading (boo!) but it's working again.
Does anyone know whether Win7 vs XP is an issue? The software is the same. I don't know. I hope that this won't happen again on his machine. |

__________________________________________________ ___________________ That's what I did....found the epub file in Finder, dragged it over to the Kobo, and voila - Bob's yer uncle! Worked just fine. Jesus, I hope the book is worth all this aggravation. thanks much |

As a a couple of others say, use drag and drop instead.
I use calibre as well - it worked fine until I used it to delete books from the device. Now whenever I use the calibre "send to device" command, the books never show up. Now I use Windows explorer to drag the epub from my calibre library folder to the top level directory on the kobo (rather than the author folder directories). Works for me - but I would like to know why it doesn't work using standard calibre functionality. Never got to the bottom of that one despite asking in the calibre forum |

Thanks for the delete clue. I found the issue. When kepubs are deleted a book record is left in the dataabse with an ___ExpirationStatus=3 and the row gets deleted when you sync with Kobo the next time.
I had been treating epubs the same way but the sync does not delete the non-kepub rows. The next release will have show these expired book records and allow you to correctly delete them. Sorry for the inconvenience. Tim |

Never NEVER delete books with Calibre - its a disaster waiting to happen
KOBO has a section in the drop down menu that says - Delete this book and it deletes of the KOBO Never delete your books from your master system - KOBO, Calibre, Windows or Mac as you have pai for their ebook ownership rights (you never know, you might want to read them again) |
