Evernote and Adonit team up for Bluetooth fine-point "Jot Script" stylus
Available for pre-order now, you can get either from Evernote or Adonit.

Note that there isn't a disc like in other Adonit styluses, so it might be less prone to scratching your screen. It's expensive, of course. I have a Jot Pro ($30) though and the quality of it blows my mind. Much sturdier than the Bamboo, yet thinner. Last edited by Jessica Lares; 09-26-2013 at 05:05 PM. |

Interesting. I use Noteshelf exclusively now, and own a bunch of high quality styli, but the Adonit (with the disc) is among my least favorite ones.
When Noteshelf starts supporting this new stylus, I may actually consider it despite its very steep price, simply because note taking is the main work-related use of my iPad. Other stylus makers may follow suit at a cheaper price, or the new iPads may come up with a digitizer pen. If Noteshelf was finally ported to Android, I may even consider switching from the iPad to the Samsung Note 10 instead, no $75 pen needed for precise lines, since the Samsung Notes all come with a digitizer pen. |

I'm still not sure that this will be much of an improvement over existing styluses: if you look at the example they show of what they've written, it still look like you are writing with a Sharpie. IOW, I don't really see much improvement - and I don't think you can have real improvement with just a stylus and not a digitizer; I don't believe that the touch screen is capable of detecting finer lines.

Looks really nice, Jessica. I'd like a good stylus but it needs to work with more than Penultimate (which I've had since the early days of the first iPad and long before Evernote bought it). I love Penultimate, but I also use Paper by 53, and a few other apps. Does it work with everything? I couldnt really tell from the blurb on Evernote, seems like its restricted to their apps.

They're going to update their SDK to support it, and then developers are free to implement it. The key is to demand for it from the developers of the apps you use.
The hardware relies on their own APIs, hence it's not universal. |

I hate the Jot with the disk, but this new one has no disc, so why not... On the other hand, I already spent 100 euros for a Bluetooth pen (Wacom Intuos) and I'm not happy with it, so I'm not ready to try again right now. I'll wait and see what the reviews say.
Regarding Bluetooth I can at least say that it's a real pain to use, shortens battery life dramatically and requires to reconnect the pen often. I assume this will be true of the Adonit pen also. |

You can make your own stylus. I suspect that with some research you can find a better conducting material that can be use to make a tip that provides a tiny line width without scratching the screen.

The line width is determined by the software, not the hardware. The problem with a normal capacitive stylus is the lack of precision. And if it was possible to make them thinner and more precise, somebody would have done it. Capacitive stylus come in all shapes and prices, and some people are willing to pay more for a better quality, but there are limitations due to the capacitive screen technology, I suppose. That's why manufacturers who want to overcome these limitations have to resort to additional technology that resides in the pen and communicates with the device using Bluetooth, or sometimes the headphones jack.

I'll be interested to see some reviews of this. I've got one the the styluses with the clear disk on it and its frankly awful to draw with. I gave up and bought a paper notebook for sketching. I just take a photo of my sketch and pull it into Evernote that way, it's much less annoying.
