Does Moon+ Reader support true italics

The <strong> or <em> properties are declared in epub html code. An epub reader like Moon+ should interpret it and find the proper font to display it (rather than make fake bold and fake italic, or, slanted font). For example, if I put SegoeUI, SegoeUIBold and SegoeUIitalic.ttf in the same folder, Moon+ should use them all to display something like:

Quote:
This is a true italic font.
What's more, I hope that Moon+ will support advanced Opentype features like smallcaps and contextual ligatures, which are all the work done by font designers to make better reading experience.

And if not, which e-book app is the best to support fonts and font features?

I don't know about "best" but CoolReader (free) will use all 4 font files (reg, ital, bold, boldit) if available. Mantano (not free) also added this feature very recently.

As a general overview of the 2, CoolReader has more customisation options, but if displaying epubs as per their internal css sheet(s) is important to you, Mantano is better.

Thanks, I've tried Mantano and it looks great. Although it still use default font for regular (Minion regular), it does use custom fonts for italics, bold, etc (It might be my problem.). And I see that smallcaps and letterines are supported as well.

Works for me. All I can suggest is to try a different font family and check your font filenames in sdcard/Mantano/fonts. These names work for me:

Linux Libertine-Regular.ttf or (Linux Libertine.ttf)
Linux Libertine-Italic.ttf
Linux Libertine-Bold.ttf
Linux Libertine-BoldItalic.ttf

I think the problem lies in the epub files. I've tested different epub's, some work, some don't. Maybe it's because Mantano doesn't override publisher style sheets, so if the publisher specifies a certain font in the epub, Mantano ignores user's custom font choice.

Yes, probably true. Mantano's strength is also it's weakness, depending on your point-of-view. It follows the internal css better than most.

It's already the best out there. Maybe I'll communicate with its developers about the override thing. Thanks a lot for the recommendation!
