Going to Philippines. Unwise to sync?
Hello. I have been told that if I sync my KPW2 in the Philippines during my upcoming 6 week stay, I might lose my books bought in the Kindle store, only to get them back in place when I return in November.
That said, would that logic apply to my Kindle on my Mac, iPad, etc? I imagine, yes. My local librarian told me this could occur since the books were purchased in the US. Make sense? Should I disengage the wifi once I board the plane? I am sure this topic has been broached before, so sorry if this is a duplication of effort. Last edited by el.jeffe58; 11-17-2013 at 08:29 PM. |

I traveled to Korea last year with my K3g. Had the 3g on many times during my stay, no books disappeared.
On a related topic, TV shows I had loaded on my Kindle Fire did not work, probably because I had connected to local WiFi. |

Told by whom? Whoever told it you is talking absolute rubbish. No, you certainly won't lose anything.

The only way you might experience any difficulty is if your device failed completely, and you had to re-download all content. Even then, if your address and credit card are domestic US, there shouldn't be any issue.
Are you actually in Chicago, or in one of the surrounding 'burbs? |

Amazon does not check anything (Kindle books) when they are downloaded, only when they are bought. Download from your cloud account anywhere you are, no worries.
They do not 'reach in' and delete your books too, don't worry. |

I receive my newspaper via wifi or 3G anywhere in the world. I travel regularly to India. I have been to China, Korea, the UK, France and Spain. No problem whatsoever. I even bought and downloaded new books and samples while traveling. That is what the Kindle (with 3G) has been made for.
You will have no problem. Probably, what you are referring to is when peaple stay for longer periods in foreign countries, maybe several months. That could be the case when Amazon might ask questions or identification. Or maybe that was just rumours I picked up years ago. |

The only situation I'm aware of where Amazon check your current location is the video streaming service that's a part of the Amazon Prime service in the US. This will only work if you are currently in the US.

Thanks for all of the helpful replies. Looks like I'll be a very happy reader in Asia.

The admonition was about Google Play updates, not Amazon.

I lived in the Philippines for almost 7 years. You're biggest difficulty is likely to be finding a reliable Wi-Fi connection; 3g coverage is also a joke in more than a few parts of the country.
Bottom line: make sure you load enough material to last you for your trip before you leave . |
