Unhappy Battery Life

I'm wondering if anyone can help me - I've been noticing for the past several weeks/months my reader is no longer holding a charge for very long. It used to last me weeks in between charges.

Now, it is down to days. Example, I charged my reader on Monday - full charge. Today, it was totally drained. I am not doing anything differently than I used to, and have made sure that it is updated to the latest version (2.5.2)

If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix/work around this I would much appreciate it.

Yes, how old is it? The age of Li-Ion batteries is an important factor in how much capacity they can still hold. And you might want to look at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=223508 for some discussion on the battery life in the Kobo devices and in general.

I've got firmware 2.8.1 running on my Touch. Worth checking the firmware thread to see if it's compatible with your model Touch. Not saying it's your solution, just something to try.

I'd sign out/back in, dump all the books, do a factory reset in that order and see if anything helps. Load just a book or two and see if anything improves at each stage. Preferably a book you read when you were not having trouble. I'd also try running the battery way down and leaving it on charge for a while.

Good luck!

Have you tried charging it for a couple of hours, regardless of whether it says it is 100% or not?

I sometimes get what seems like rapid discharge, but I notice that it is when I am giving it short charges often. I never had much faith in the battery indicator on the Touch. It seems pretty primitive and unreliable compared to my smartphone one.

It's coming up on 2 years. I got it the first year the touch version was released. I don't use the wi-fi on it, and I have previously done a reset - this did not improve the battery life.

If I had the money I would break down and get one of the new readers. But, since I don't I'll have to live with the crappy battery.

Well, two years is a while, but the battery in my cell is two years+ old and still going strong... I'd give you odds that unless you noticed a gradual reduction in capacity, that your problem is firmware or file related and probably began either after a firmware upgrade or side loading a book the firmware can't quite process. I bought my Touch used on EBay, have had it over a year -it's an N905B, and it's still going strong on the battery.

Good luck.
