Unhappy defector

I preordered a kindle paperwhite. Love it, at least so far.
I had the nook 1st edition and the simple touch. I wanted a ereader with a lit screen. I thought about a glowlight, but my touch had a few annoyances that I just couldn't get over.

1. I sideload my books and about once a week my nook would lose my place in the book. I would then have to search back through it to find where I was. This happened mostly when I connected it to a computer, even just to charge.

2. Can't display a nested table of contents.

3. About once a month the page turn button would get stuck and turn a couple of dozen pages before I could get it stopped. I couldn't make it do it, so I never tried to get a replacement.

4. The biggest was that B&N didn't seem to care enough to release updates to fix 1 & 2 or add new features.

B&N has a very good line of ereaders, but they don't update them.
Every year Amazon brings out a new ereader and backports a least a portion of the new features to its older readers.
I'm sure I'll find annoyances with the kindle, but at least Amazon still supports them.
And B&N wonders why their ebook business is failing...
I thought about a Kobo, but there isn't anywhere close to me where I can try one out in person.
So, yeah I'm kinda sad. I like rooting for the underdog, but sometimes, they're the underdog for a reason.

The Kindle's are nice. I gave my Kindle 3 (later known as the Kindle Keyboard) to my mom when I got my first Nook Tablet. I really liked the Kindle, but I can do so much more with a tablet. I heard the Paperwhite is excellent, although I haven't actually had one in my hands yet.

I went the other direction and just got a Kobo Aura (will hopefully be here next week). I love my Nook Glowlight, but the screen ended up damaged after a recent flight and while it's still usable the hotspots on it are annoying. I wanted to stay with Nook, but B&N is too slow in releasing new hardware. The Glow is now two generations old and there's nothing but rumors about a replacement. I couldn't wait any longer.

I still intend to purchase books through the Nook store because I get discounted gift cards through my Discover credit card, but they will be read on my Kobo going forward.

I really thought about the kobo. It was a toss up and I just picked the kindle.
It kinda made me mad when after the release of the touch B&N didn't release anymore updates for the nook 1. There where a few things that needed fixes and they basically dropped support.

I defected to the Kindle PW last spring. I like the customer service from Amazon plus a better book selection (alot of free books). I dont regret switching over. I may even get a nook glowlight in the future that way I can have the best of both.
