.txt file loses paragraphs when opening in sigil.
I converted an .odt file from libreoffice to a UT-8 text file. (.txt)
When I open the file in notepad it has kept all its returns. But when I open it in sigil it has reduced 2 returns to one and one to none. ? Last edited by bigcloudsmiling; 09-29-2013 at 04:12 PM. Reason: typos |

BTW many browsers discard 'doubles' of the white space kind or empty returns. A Paragraph has only 1 return (an a margin-botom or margin-top to set space between P's) |

Ok thanks, maybe i will look at that another time.
It is the normal paragraphs with one returns that are lost, anyone know why / how to fix ? |

I found out why it doesn't work in the manual:

It does not cost a bundle to try, so why not? |

Sigil is well documented and a good choice to learn a bit more than the basics.
And like i said i may try it some time. Last edited by bigcloudsmiling; 09-30-2013 at 09:01 AM. |

I use either the writer2epub or writer2xhtml plugins to produce a basic epub from LibreOffice.
If the .odt document is well-formated (i.e. use of styles rather than "direct formatting") the above will produce an epub container with relatively clean xhtml code inside. By itself it is usually good enough for home use, if you're not too picky. I wouldn't offer it for sale as is, though. Then I use sigil to tweak and polish the epub into the final form I want. (E.g. adding the cover, extensive metadata, an in-line TOC, variants for kindlegen conversion, etc.) In other words, use LibreOffice to produce the input to sigil, not to replace sigil. Albert |
