Embedded font works in AZW3 but not MOBI
Hi,
I need to embed special font into my book.
I'm using Calibre, "embed font family" under "look and feel".

AZF is fine, font is embedded everything looks great. But MOBI does not have embedded font!
Same result on Calibre reader or Kindle Paperwhite.

The samples are attached.

What I am doing wrong?

I don't think that mobi supports font embedding at all.

MOBI does not support embedded fonts. The files you are refering to were probably joint KF8 and MOBI 6 files, in which case the KF8 part will support embedded fonts and the MOBI 6 part will not.

Hi,
Can you please have a look at MOBI attached?

It clearly has publisher font (very ugly one!). I can see "publisher font" option on my Kindle Paperwhite as well as Kindle 4.

It's a funny file; I can open it with 7zip to look inside. I can't do this with MOBI created by brilliant Calibre software.

How do I do the same the Calibre?

As I said, that is a joint MOBI file with a KF8 and MOBI 6 part.

so how do I create one?

Can you recommend software or point me to a web page? Can Calibre do this?

I really need embedded fonts on Kindle Mobi, because AZW3 format has a rendering bug.

If I understand you correctly when you convert a book to Mobi go to the Mobi output section and change the dropdown to both or new as you like. See attached.

I''ve tried "new" setting and it does not work on Kindle 4 or kindle Paperwhite, error message says can not read the file, please re download from Amazon.

My Kindle 4 runs version 4.1.1 so "new" format should be rendered according to MobileRead WIKI

"Both" setting works and renders on Kindle 4 or kindle Paperwhite with bug, same as AZW4

Clearly generated with Calibre file is not the same as in "Bulgakov" example above. I can't open it with 7zip, while "Bulgakov" example opens without error.

Is there any way to make "new" setting to work?

Update. I've created epub using Calibre and converted to mobi using KinleGen.

I looks like it's "new" MOBI, reners with same errors as AZW3!

Still no luck!!!
