Library on memory card doesn't show up at startup

A few days ago I've put all my ebooks on a 16GB uSD card, leaving none of them on the Kobo internal memory.

The result is that when I turn on the Glo no book shows up, so I have to go on Library -> Books and then the list comes up.

What can I do to avoid repeating this operation each time I turn the ereader on?

Thanks!

Leave it in sleep mode. This is normal with Kobo lately. It never used to take this long but one step forward and 2 or three back with current firmware releases.

I agree with JAck about leaving it in sleep mode, but what you describe isn't normal. There is an issue with Touch models not seeing the card when it boots, but the solution is to take it out and resinsert it.

What are you seeing when you start the device? And what firmware are you using?

I'm seeing a white startup page with only the "Last Sync" tile.

My firmware version is the 2.8.1, but I had the same problem since the 2.4 version. I can't say anything on firmware versions prior to 2.4 since at that time I didn't have a uSD card.

The solution for the Touch models is to take it out and reinsert it at any boot?
If so, I prefer to go on Library -> Books each time I boot.

OK, that's a new one

Once you visit the library, the books you open appear on the home screen? Do any other tiles appear as you use the other functions such as the web browser or games? Does it remember the reading status of your books?

In the case of the Touch, it doesn't recognise the card at all when powered off and on. For you, it is seeing the card and the books are still there. It just isn't building the home screen properly.

Yes to all. Every tile stays there until I power off the Glo.

Am I the only one having this problem?

I've just installed the KoboUtilities and the KoboTouchExtended plugins for calibre, but I don't know if I can find a solution by using them.

With this behaviour, it sounds like a database corruption to the Activity table. As you have my Kobo Utilities plugin, can you use the "Check the database" option? This will check for errors in the database and display the details. If there are no problems, the details will be "OK". Other wise, the errors will be listed.

If the database is corrupt, the simplest fix is to logoff you account on the device. This replaces the database with an empty version and then takes you through the set up. After that, it will add the books on the device back in. If you want, you can use the utilities plugin to store the reading status of you sideloaded books and restore them after the logout and in.

I have the same issue since I updated to the 2.8.1 firmware (and signaled this bug with others of the same type, related to settings being lost when the device is powered on/off on the thread about the 2.8.1 firmware). I signed out and then in again and the issue lasted, so I don't think it's database corruption related. For the moment, I never power off, and it makes the trick but I'd rather this bug would be fixed.

Sorry for my late answer but I haven't had an internet connection in the last week.

I've used the "Check the database" option, but the result was an "OK".

In that case, I don't know what is happening. You could try the logoff and see what happens. Otherwise, a factory reset should solve it.

I would be interested in looking at the database if you don't mind sending it to me. Either put it somewhere I can download and PM me the link or PM me for an address to send it to.

I've logged off, then I connected the Glo to the PC, opened the KoboDesktop software in Windows 7 and then everything worked, also after turning it on/off a couple of times.

Then I connected the Glo while using Linux Mint, I went in .kobo -> affiliate.conf and I switched from "Mondadori" (the Italian retailer of the Glo) to "Kobo", since I didn't want to see the Mondadori logo.

Guess what, I'm stuck again with the previous problem of the library not showing up after turning the Glo on.
