Calibre-Parallel.exe Seeking Internet Access

Running 0.7.47 Today, during conversion of an epub, calibre-parallel.exe asked for Internet access. The firewall reported the IP as 224.0.0.22 I don't think I have seen this behaviour previously. Can anyone tell me if this is expected behaviour in Calibre, and what the purpose of the access might be?

You should probably upgrade. Calibre is up to 1.2.0 right now.

224.0.0.22 is not a valid ip address and the only case that I know of where ebook conversion will try to access the internet is if you are converting to PDF, where the conversion uses a browser to render the html to PDF.

I stopped updating when we got to a version that works for me. Each time an update comes out, I read about the changes, but so far none are of added-value to my situation, so I leave well enough alone. Dovid has done a great job on Calibre and I love working with this version.

Ah ha! In between conversions I was accessing another computer on the local network. That may be related to the event. Thanks.

In this case I was adding a book cover to an ePub, outputting to ePub. It worked beautifully too! Thanks for this marvelous software.

If you simply want to change the over for an ePub you might be better off using the Polish feature of Calibre (you may have to go into Preferences to change the menu settings to get it to show up) or the Modify ePub plugin. Using either of these avoids the need to convert which some prefer.

Or epubs I prefer the Modify ePub plugin as it has more functionality, but the built-in Polish feature has the advantage of not being limited to ePub format only.

To use either of these features the OP would have to upgrade and he indicated that he has read up on all of the changes and he is happy with the version he is using. Of course the What's New area does not describe the 75+ plugins that are available, only two of which will run on his version of calibre.

ddjohn,
Alright, I know you said you've been keeping track and all... and I don't want to seem like I'm applying unwanted pressure...

But I have to say that plugins have added a huge degree of functionality that many users have needed/wanted for years. It's no sinecure -- you will still need to do manual edits -- but finding and fixing various issues has gotten much easier and faster to correct.

Not to mention the recent database re-write has made a huge response time difference (easier seen for larger libraries).
