haven't read any of these, though the Kushner, Saunders & Marra books have been on my radar. I'll have to check them out. Thanks for posting.

"Tenth of December" has gotten incredible reviews. It looks to be a book of short stories, so the grouping in the first post appears to be a combination of both novels and short stories.

I'll also purchase Thomas Pynchon's new book - anything by him.

Me too. The only thing here that actually looks interesting to me is:

Lawrence Wright, Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, & the Prison of Belief

The poetry selections look particularly underwhelming....

I can recommend the Duke Ellington bio. Other than that I'll read Bleeding Edge, maybe The Lowland and that's about it from this particular list. Most of it is simply too US-specific to be of any interest.

A clarification of the idea of a 'longlist,' taken from Wiki:

"Beginning with 2013, the Foundation announced a "longlist" of 10 titles in each of the four categories in September (40 titles), followed by a "finalist" list of 5 titles in October (20 titles), and then the winners in November (4 titles)."

I'm a huge Thomas Pynchon fan. If he wins, I wonder if he'll do what he did in 1973, although Irwin Corey at 99 may be too old to offer an 'acceptance' speech on behalf of the author.
