This is my own thread to say hello (or g'day). I'm Joss, I live in Melbourne, Australia. I like fantasy mainly, but a bit of historical fiction, biographies, sci-fi and woman protagonists (especially in fantasy). I don't know exactly how a gas bbq works, however I do know that when I was camping with my family in January, I was the only one who could keep the barbie going. I eat the blue ones last - a day or two later if I can control myself, because they are way pretty on their own.

I bought a HanLin 2 days ago, so I'm still playing around with it, so far I've only downloaded free books for it. I'm flying overseas in about a month and I wanted to travel light, but still have books to read and this seemed like the best solution. I've had fun showing it off to people around me because no one has seen one before and a lot of them hadn't heard of them.

So that's me.

Welcome to MR, groovyjoss. I hope you enjoy your new HanLin as much as I enjoy my Sony 505.

There are lots of fantasy and sci-fi freebies so you should be totally loaded up for your trip overseas.

You don't know how a gas barbie works? Well what good are you to me then? Oh, you're good at keeping one going...well, that's alright then, especially seeing as you eat the blue ones last (I do too!).

Sci-fi and woman protagonists...I'm guessing you might like Sherri S. Tepper. Grass and Raising The Stones are two of my favourite books. Technically not fantasy, but I'm not sure the distinction matters with these two.

Historical fiction...I, Claudius and Claudius, The God is the only experience I can think of. I'm not generally a history fan, though I've kept the above on the bookshelves because I enjoyed them so much, despite myself. I've got Pillars Of the Earth (Is that "historical fiction"?) but I've yet to read it.

Biographies...not much, but I really enjoyed David Marr's Patrick White: A Life (while never having actually read a Patrick White book).

Fantasy...the standards mostly (LotR, Eddings, Donaldson, et cetera), but there's a lot of it in my past, same as sci-fi, and no doubt a lot in my future too.

Welcome aboard, Joss. Keep those BBQ skills up to scratch, and if you hear of anyone who knows how a gas BBQ works, let me know.

Cheers,
Marc

Welcome to MR.
I didn't know the Hanlin is available in Oz. Where did you get it? I have friends in Sydney who are trying to buy an e-book reader and they don't know where to go.

Hi Joss and welcome to MobileRead. If you like SciFi and women protagonists, you should try the Honor Harrington series by David Weber. I'm just now reading the first one ('On Basilisk Station') and liking it

See this link:

https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Wher..._eBook_Devices

and look under "Oceania" for each device. You'll find
DA Direct
and Dymocks are the two main ones, though not the only. I only have experience with Dymocks, and therefore I recommend DA Direct (and there's a DA Direct staff member on this forum, cbell, and she's most helpful).

Cheers,
Marc

Thank you, my friend!

Polyglot27, please suggest to your friend that they contact me. Information on ebook readers available in Australia is at www.dadirect.com/readers.

Oh and welcome to Mobileread, groovyjoss! I'm also in Melbourne.

I know (or I figured you were), because I found your information on this site, and you mentioned to someone else to call before dropping into the dadirect offices. So I called and you said the best place to get a ereader was at Reader's Feast in the city. So thanks for your help.

Ah, groovyjoss - I wondered if we'd spoken, when I saw you were local and had a new HanLin. I hope you're enjoying using it!

Will you join us at Koko Black in the CBD for the MR meetup in a couple of weeks?

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43733

Laine and roytravis are experienced, enthusiastic HanLin users and they'll both be there.

I'll come along to that Especially after you posted the menu - yum!

I'm finding my HanLin so nice to read that I keep going to turn the pages rather than press the button :$ I think that is a good sign.

Thanks Montsnmags and cbell for the info. I tried to open the dadirect page but it wouldn't load for some strange reason. Anyway I have transmitted your info to my friends.

Great! I've added to you to our list for the meetup and I look forward to meeting you

I also try to turn paper pages when I'm reading on my iLiad! I love how I can get 'lost in a book' reading on an electronic device.
