KT Not Accepting Account on Setup

Hey All:

Weird issue with my KT (old style). I've updated to the latest version (2.6.1) and decided to do a factory reset. Once finished, I plugged it into the computer and let Desktop do its setup. I get as far as the second page, where you have to log in. The correct credentials result in the setup staying on the "sign in" screen (no error re: password, etc.). I cannot actually save the account to the Kobo.

Issue persists even when unplugged from the PC. I have to set up an account, so I add the Wifi ssid and code. When I sign in on the KT, I get an error that the device is not connected to the wifi, which kicks me back to Wifi setup. Once again, cannot set up account on the device.

I haven't been able to factory reset or anything else since this issue, because I can't even get into the actual device. Any tips on how to get the thing working again?

There has been a couple of reports on this before. I would try connecting to the PC without the Kobo desktop running and removing the ".kobo" directory from the device. When it restarts, it should replace the directory and then take you through the setup.

If that doesn't work, you will probably need to do a factory reset again. From the state you are in, power off by holding the power switch in the off position for at least 15 seconds. Them hold the Home button down while turning it on. When the LED start flashing, release the Home button.

Davidfor: Your title of "Wizard" is well deserved. Thanks for your help. The first method worked, and I'm back up and running.

Just to add to this in case others are having a similar problem:

I bought a book from Kobo a couple of days ago, which downloaded to my Kobo library. I hitched up my KT to the computer, but it wouldn't download the new book. No problem, I thought, I'll get the second copy that I put onto Calibre. However when I tried to link up to Calibre I got a message "Error communicating with device. Database disk image is malformed."

It did the same thing a couple of times more, so I did a Factory Reset and cleared everything off. Then it all worked perfectly, and my Kobo is much lighter with only 30 or so books on it instead of about 400! It also linked up as normal with Calibre.

By the way, the KT is still on 2.5.2. I'm not sure whether it should be on a higher version than this, but as it's working, I'm not going to fiddle with it.
