Kindle Worlds
I'm seeing more and more stuff being released under the "Kindle Worlds" banner.
I know that it is supposed to be an outlet for authorized fan fiction, but how much control of the content does the creator have? For instance, there are a TON of Silo stories out already, coming from the world Hugh Howey created. Bram Stoker winner John Everson has written something for Vampire Diaries, which I don't know, is that considered fan-fic? I'm kind of on the fence with all of this. There are stories that seem interesting, but at the same time, I can see where a lot of junk is going to be produced under that name. Do you think this is just a money grab by amazon? |

I believe that everything in this area has been approved by the copyright holder, but that almost certainly doesn't mean that the copyright holder has read it or thinks that it's any good.

Yeah, I know they can't read them all, or approve them on an individual level, hence this:

Calling Kindle Worlds fanfic falls a bit short of the reality because, being for pay, it will attract pros. Nowhere does it say it is for "amateurs" or newbies only.
Some will do so out of affection for the source material, but others will see it as a quasi-marketing opportunity to sell themselves to fans of the source or simply a chance to make a quick buck. It'll be interesting to see how this experiment plays out. |

![]() Anyway... Sure, these content creators aren't going to have the time vet each and every paragraph of the content submitted ... but neither is it exactly going to take an army of assistants to quickly/easily veto a lot of flat-out garbage. |
