Trouble Jailbreaking K4.1.1
I'm trying to jailbreak my kindle but I am a newb. Ideally, I'd like to get rid of the ad screensavers, and replace them with something else.
I was following these instructions: https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kind...king#Jailbreak and I got to step 6) Under the SSH? section and using terminal types in the "ssh root@192.168.15.244" command. and.. presto! Nothing happened. Except an error saying "ssh: connect to host 192.168.15.201 port 22: Connection refused" The weird thing was that when I aborted the mission and restarted the kindle it gave me the "You are jailbroken" message. Which doesn't make sense, since I didn't actually login with a password or finish the process... Can anyone help me out? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! |

We don't support the removal of ads.
Kubrick would be your best bet for a guaranteed flashing process. |

@pigmcnugget: Notice how the 'Jailbreaking' section and the 'SSH' section, are, well, two different sections?
You don't need SSH to JailBreak your device. (But as you discovered, you *do* need the JailBreak to be able to use SSH through USBNet on the K4B). (SSH probably doesn't work in diags because that's a recent/K4B device, so nothing surprising there, it's all spelled out in the wiki, twice, actually, one time on top of the SSH section, and once again at the bottom). You can remove the ads using the "Manage Your Kindle" page on the Amazon web site.

Thanks for the responses, and sorry for posting in the wrong section. I'm new here.
@twobob: Could you or someone else could explain the "flashing process" to me? I'm not exactly sure what that means. @NiLuJe: I see your point, I appreciate your input, but there's no need for the condescension. To be honest.. I don't even know what SSH stands for, so it easily becomes very difficult to be observant to what may seem obvious to someone who more seasoned in this process. @HarryT: I'll look into that. I purchased the Kindle used, so I didn't know it had that option. From what I understood it, you need to pay a fee to get rid of the ads. Thanks folks! |

@pigmcnugget: Download Kubrick (see sticky thread in this forum), burn it to a CD, boot PC from it. It will give you the option to jailbreak the device (and more, but you don't need the rest of the functionality for now).
Concerning the ads: yes, you have to pay. You won't get any other answer here. |
