Load apps?
My brand new kindle arrived this morning, so I spent a bit of time loading some books I'd already converted with calibre onto it, and then finding the place where I was up to in the one that I was reading on my mobile.
But, I want to have a clock and a battery indicator in the status bar whilst I'm reading, so I went to amazon apps and tried to download 'cool tools', but the browser wont let me, it only allows the four book types that it can read! I've checked the version and its v4.1.0, but other than that I know nothing about the device. How can I get my desired clock and battery indicator please? Sharon. |

Short answer: you can't. The e-ink Kindles do not support status bar modifications.
As for "real apps" - if you're registered with amazon.com, you may be able to download some active content. If you're registered in an amazon store anywhere else in the world, you're a second-class person and are not allowed to download any active content. Or, you can head over to the developer's corner sub-forum and see if there's anything there for you. (But no status bar modifications either). |

You've bought a standard Kindle e-reader (sounds like the $69 one), you can load books and other documents on it (and some basic active content as ixtab says), but it's not a tablet like the Kindle Fire that you can run apps on.
The closest you can get is to press the menu button while reading and it brings up the book title, time, WiFi and battery icon along the top status bar, although that is for the Kindle Keyboard, not sure if it works the same way for the Kindle 4? |

It sounds as if you're expecting to be able to run Android apps on an eInk Kindle. You can't - it's not an Android device.

Yes, bog standard from amazon UK for 69UKP, okay thanks, I'll just learn to live with it then, and occasionally use the menu button.
