Iliad for Sale in Australia

Hi All,

I've got a 3mth-old Iliad for sale that was purchased from Dymocks for AUD899 in January. I will sell it for AUD700 delivered free in Australia, or will ship overseas for an extra AUD45 (via EMS)

Payment can be direct to my bank a/c if buyer is in Australia, or to my PayPal account.

Its in excellent condition - works perfectly, with no scratches, marks or anything else. I'm selling it because, for various reasons, I actually prefer the form-factor of the Sony 505 and find myself not really using the Iliad at all anymore.

Please PM or email me with an offer!

Thanks

Malcolm

I played with one in Dymocks and it was interesting but not compelling. I agree with you about the Sony being closer to the right size. I'd be willing to pay another $400 to have a bigger device with a touch screen as a semi-portable sketch pad, but not more, sorry. The SoriBook looks like a better deal than the iLiad.

How can a "vapourware" device be a "better deal" than one that you can actually go out and buy?

It's a lot cheaper... I can pay with my yet-to-be-printed dollars

I look at the iLiad and I don't see twice the value of the Sony. If it was $100 more expensive, sure, it's slightly bigger and has a touch screen. But twice the price for 20% bigger screen? Sounds like the "wide screen" scam that LCD manufacturers are so fond of. Ever noticed that the widescreen version is 50% more expensive for 20% more pixels?

But I expect the OP can get a lot more for his iLiad on eBay or Craigslist than I'm willing to pay.

Well the Kindle has the same size screen and is $100 more so your price doesn't side with reality. The iLiad has a 60% larger screen based on area and there is no method to measure where it is only 20% bigger since even the linear measure is 33% larger. The touch screen mean notes and many other features. It also has WiFi and can be a host USB support such things as external keyboards and it is fully open so you get 3 built in readers and can add more things. It also has twice the gray scale levels. Now what would you pay?

Hi,

I'm quite happy to buy the Iliad at that price subject to one question, will it read secure PDF books? I currently have a CyBook Gen 3, and a Sony 500, and it seems that every book that I really want appears to be in another format. Let me know the purchase arrangements, if it can read the PDF books I shall probably buy it

Except for that objectionable comment, I agree with you. My answer doesn't change, however, because we're talking about what I am willing to pay, rather than some fictional person that you dictate the feelings of.

As I said, other people will no doubt value the iLiad more than I do, or value their money less. There's even been an offer.

There is no eBook reader that will read secure PDF books currently. You will need to use a PC. Only digital editions will read a secure PDF book, although it may be possible on a PPC device running adobe reader. I haven't personally tried it. The whole PDF DRM is undergoing change to a model that supports more than one device.

Onemack, I suggest you start with libPRS and play with converting ebooks between formats. While nothing will read secure PDFs other that the official reader, most other formats can be converted. I buy "Microsoft reader" books and reformat them for my Sony505 quite regularly, as well as importing HTML and rtf etc.
