New books coming out in Fantasy Masterworks

This year in October Orion Publishing Group is reviving Fantasy Masterworks series with five new titles and brand new cover designs. Most of them will have an ebook edition as well I think.

Tim Powers‘- Last Call
John Crowley‘s -Aegypt
Lucius Shepard‘s -The Dragon Griaule.
Pat Murphy‘s -The Falling Woman
Avram Davidson‘s -The Phoenix and the Mirror

New titles will follow in 2014.

Fantasy Masterworks is as a series of fantastic fiction classics from Orion Publishing Group. The series is a companion series for their SF Masterworks collection.

I simply love these two series as they expose anybody to great classics of fantasy and sci-fi. I started collecting them as well, hope I can make enough money to do so in the future as well

Here's a link to overview of both these collections:

SF Masterworks

Have you read any of these collections? What do you think of such sci-fi or fantasy collections? Please give your opinion.

Hope at least some of you are excited about this as me
Thank you.

I love those collections, too. I discovered them when I still bought a lot of paper books, and I hope they will continue adding to the collections. I also appreciate that they add "modern" classics, as I have recently bought two Connie Willis titles to replace the paperbacks I couldn't read anymore because of the tiny font size.

I also like Tim Powers a lot, I have The Drawing of the Dark and Last Call as trade paperback on my shelf.

I also bought a couple of classic titles from SF Gateway recently, but haven't got to them yet. (Slow River and Ammonite by Nicola Griffith and Babel-17 by Samuel R. Delaney.

I also have The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers and The Land of Laughs by Jonathan Carroll on my Kindle, both are great reads.

The Dragon Griaule is just plain incredible. The book is a collection of novellas and short stories that Shepard has written over the years. The first of these, "The Man Who Painted the Dragon Griaule" (extended excerpt at Baen), won the world Fantasy Award for best novella in 1985. In my personal opinion, every story save one ("Liar's House") is among the best Fantasy I've ever read. That story is good, just not as great as the rest.

What seems weird is that even though there are 20+ year-old stories included, the collection itself was just published barely over a year ago. And while the hardcover is relatively expensive, it's only $4.99 for Kindle. So, it's not like they're reviving a long-out-of-print rarity. Maybe it's just become a modern classic that quickly. Or does England not know about Lucius Shepard?

Considering the work done by PS Publishing on Lucius Shepard stories and the number of 1st pub works from them, I rather think that FM is just doing its job of releasing the cream of the crop in the series - it doesn't say that a Masterwork has to be over a certain number of years in age, it basically just has to be something that is well-above average for its type... but of course the US may not know that books are published (and written) in other parts of the world... or, indeed, that there are other parts of the world than the US...

These must only be for the UK. In the US, Last Call is published by HarperCollins, the Avram Davidson series is published by Prologue Books, some of the Crowley Aegypt series (but apparently not Aegypt) are published by Overlook, the Lucius Shepard is sold by Subterranean Press, and I didn't find the Pat Murphy book.

All I can say is if they have the rights to The Complete Enchanter, Zelazny's Amber books. Moorcock's Corum books, Anderson's books and Walton's books is I will be overjoyed to give them my money!

You can check out this link and you'll find all you have mentioned.

Other then this collection, since you mention Moorcock; since September 2012, Gollanz has decided to publish entire science fiction and fantasy back catalogue of Michael Moorcock, plus much of his literary fiction.
You can read more about it here

Yes, I looked at the original link, thus the list of authors who were mentioned. It does look a lot like it's UK rights rather than US though. Unfortunate.

Ah, sorry.
Unfortunate? Depends on who you're talking to. I bet a lot of British people are happy
Besides, you can get these books free of delivery charge anywhere in the world from site like bookdepository.co.uk
I use them all the time, and I'm in east Asia!

I've never had anyone charge me to deliver an ebook. I already have dead tree copies of all the books on the website that I am interested in. It's the ebooks that I want to buy.
