mh not sure you can see it there, but you can easily see all your lists like this, as I do (not sure if there are more ways)

Most people just add appropriate tags (or a custom column) to maintain this sort of information.
The Reading List plugin helps with maintaining lists of books that need to be synced to the reading device at some future point in time. |

oh, right, I suppose you could also create a custom column (comma separated text like tags), instruct the plugin to add a specific tag on that column when you put a book on a specific list, and you'd probably have what you want, the lists showing on the left side (I have not tried to do it but it should work)!

Everyone's going to do this a bit differently. Me, I put read books into an Archive library, because I very rarely re-read. The others I put into custom shelves. Nonfiction, zines, and short fiction get their own shelves. Fiction novels (the bulk of my books) I stratify into immediate want-to-read-real-soon-now, a less urgent/wanted shelf, and so on. Then I can slot new reads into the hierarchy depending on how desperately I want to get to them; and just sync the top two shelves to my reader.

To create your own columns, Click on Preferences, then under the Interface grouping, you'll see Add Your Own Columns. Click on the big green plus, and go at it.
![]() Have fun! I just made mine Read column to Yes/No. And whatever I read a book, I just change it to yes and it shows up a checkmark. I also added a column for date formula to add the date that I read the book. To back up your preferences, there should be two files in your Calibre library. One says metadata.db, the other says metadata_db_pref_backup.json. The second file is your preference file...all you need to do is make sure the two files is copied over to your back up, and whenever you change preferences, make sure you overwrite the old file with the new preferences. I would also suggest that you backup your calibre configuration folder, many preferences are global i.e they apply to all libraries - Preferences->Miscellaneous->Open calibre configuration directory will tell you where it's located If you do incremental backups via one of the folder synchronisation tools, then after the initial backup of everything, it will probably only take a few minutes a day. I have two custom column although it could probably be done in one. I have a yess/no column where I check off books I have read. I like this because it is easy to see and sort on.
I have another column text, with a set of permitted values where I three values. Read, Must read and maybe read, or blank if undecided. Must read is my favorite authors/series, Read is for books I know I will like, Maybe read is for books that sound sort of interesting and blank means haven't a clue ![]() How I use this and maintain it is a bit bizarre as I try to track books I have read and books I want to read that are available in print and ebook, as well as books I have. It is in a constant state of flux whenever I get really bored ![]() Helen |
