Conversion to jpeg/png
Is there any way (a plugin, I suppose) to get Calibre to convert an ebook into a series of jpegs of a specified resolution, for visualization on devices that can display pictures but not text?

If you first convert the book to pdf, using calibre, then you can easily convert that pdf to a series of jpg images. There are free programs and even free online services for that.
Just google "pdf to jpg". |

One way may be to use one of the many "print to bitmap" virtual printer drivers. These install as a printer but print to file rather than print to a device. I don't have experience with any other than one that prints to PDF (PrimoPDF), but there are a number out there that output JPEG and other bitmap formats.
With a virtual printer you simply get the ebook into a format that works in some ebook viewing software that has a standard print function. It's then an issue of adjusting the viewer's layout to size the print "pages" as needed and then adjusting the virtual printer to produce the needed resolution. |

I've been away from these forums for awhile and therefore might be incorrect. That said...
I'm not aware of an option to bulk convert text (or other on-demand vector-based data) into graphic images within calibre. It seems like you're trying to automate and simplify the process of converting vector data to raster (bit-mapped) data. At least as far as I know, there is no good way to do so. (Automatic bulk conversion of existing images is possible through graphics programs and some utilities. Most of these programs require a compatible image source format which isn't likely to be available for ebooks.) |

If you want to convert an eBook into a series of JPEG or PNG format, then you should try some online PDF to image converter applications. Other than this you can also try some third-party applications which can help you convert your PDF files into JPEG or PNG format. I can suggest you to check SysInfoTools PDF Image Extractor software that will extract all the images and pictures from PDF files and save them to these image formats: JPEG, BMP, PNG and GIF. You can try its free demo version to check its performance. Regards. |
