Is my kindle dead?

Part of the screen did not load and has remained like this ever since. Is there any way of resetting this condition? Or is my kindle really dead?

It is most definitely, completely and irrevocably dead.

This is symptomatic of a cracked screen substrate. The only fix is to replace the screen.

Absolutely. You've fractured the thin layer of glass (the screen substrate) that's below the outer plastic screen. Probably by applying a bending or twisting force to the screen. It's broken. This is not covered by warranty, but if you contact Kindle CS they will almost certainly offer you at least a discount off a replacement.
