Question Converting file in Calibre

Hello! I have a question about converting file to kindle format using Calibre software. After file converting, I can read converted file in Kindle device (Device is Kindle Paperwhite), but I cannot use kindle dictionary (when you press on a word during the reading to identify definition of word). It says, “There are no dictionaries on your device for this book’s language”. If someone knows solution of this issue please help. Thank you.

That implies the book declares it is in Language 'X' (could be the value in the Languages column or Your default system language)

and you PW is not configured with that

It is not broken..
I would get the same kind of message trying to read a German (de) book on my US k4 (besides my not really understanding German )

You need the correct dictionary for the books language (declaration in the book file)

If the TEXT is in English , and you have a English (en) dictionary, then the book has the wrong language metadata and you need to EDIT that.

actually problem is with Calibre, because of when I convert file for Kindle device from online (www.online-convert.com), dictionary works and with Calibre converted file doesn't. I wonder, why Calibre converts file so as the Kindle dictionary isn't able to identify text language.

I was curious, so I converted a book using the site. When I edited the converted the book, it has the following line in it:

Code:
<dc:contributor opf:file-as="calibre" opf:role="bkp">calibre (2.2.0) [http://calibre-ebook.com]</dc:contributor>
The site is using calibre as the back-end for the conversion. It might be using different tools for different formats, but I doubt it.

As both you and the site are using calibre, it has to be options in the conversion or something in the book. It might be that the language in the calibre library is different to that in the book. Calibre will update the language before the conversion. But, if you used a copy of the book that hadn't been updated, it might have different language.

If you looked at the book using Edit book, then you'll see that anyway. You do see Calibre metadata in Edit book when you edit an AZW3 file. The only way to be sure is to use KindleUnpack and look at the OPF from there.

Guess what I had done to get that line? But, it doesn't work. I dropped the file into 1.48 and unpacked it. That showed

Code:
<dc:contributor opf:file-as="calibre" opf:role="bkp">calibre (1.48.0) [http://calibre-ebook.com]</dc:contributor>
I assume that the line is being added by the extraction routine that calibre uses.

I converted the file back to epub using the site. It had:

Code:
<dc:contributor opf:role="bkp">calibre (1.47.0) [http://calibre-ebook.com]</dc:contributor>
That makes more sense. The site probably only updates every few months and it would make sense to not go to v2 for a while.

You don't have to convert AZW3 to ePub. All you need to do is use KindleUnpack to decompile it and you'll be able to see any Calibre added stuff in the OPF.

That line about Calibre 1.47 was added by Calibre. When you open an AZW3 with Calibre's eBook Editor, it does add stuff to the OPF like it does on a metadata update for an ePub. The only way to get around that is to unpack the AZW3, make your edits, and put it back together with KindleGen. But then you do have to split out the Mobi gunk.
