docbook2epub question 1: What's a DocBook?
Going through old links I found what might be a series of interesting conversion tools under the title "epub-tools". Hmmm (says I to meself as is my want) ... word conversion ... RTF conversion ... DocBook conversion,... who?
Googling DocBook found me a very comprehensive website that was like opening up a tomb with a library of unintelligable books written in an archaic version of a known language. This might be a little OT for this forum - and if there is a better subforum that I should move this query to, please tell me - but can anyone enlighten me as to whether this is viable option worth studying as a useful form of digital publishing or is it one of those signposts to a road not travelled that one finds on the 'net every so often - interesting only from a historical standpoint? I believe Docbook is used in more technical documentation like manuals. It is not used that much all around.

When I worked for a company producing a software development product a while ago, we used to use Docbook for writing technical documentation. The advantage was that you could then translate it to multiple technical formats (PDF, HTML, man,...). With programs like Word and OpenOffice now being able to do the same thing for the more popular formats, I suspect not many are using Docbook anymore (besides those that still want to produce help/manual documents).

There is a DocBook page on our wiki. It could use a bit of expansion.
