Seeking Protective, Closed Cases for Paperwhite
I currently have a Kindle Keyboard, and would like to get the new Paperwhite. This means I need a new cover.
I would like to get a case that protects the Kindle screen and is suitable for being placed in a large bag that moves around a lot. I'm leaning towards a case that has a zipper so that nothing can get in easily, yet also allows you to read the Kindle while it's in it. One of the few cases for PW I found that meets this requirement is the Marware Jurni case, but I'm not sure how much it will protect the screen from shocks. Does anyone else have this case? How tough is it? |

I recommend my solution - the official Amazon cover, and place that inside a padded zipper envelope in your bag. I keep my padded envelope (sleeve) in my bag at all times, whatever reader I am using goes into the sleeve when I take the bag. The reader is always in it's case.

The Oberon covers will provide excellent protection, and can be held in a closed position with the elastic loop, which is tight enough to keep things from getting in between the screen and the cover. Access for reading will be much more convenient than a zipper closure.

The official cover adds a protective plastic shell around the back and edges of the device, and the cover is nice and stiff and sturdy. Like booklover6 said, adding a zippered case in your bag should give you more than enough protection.

+1. I usually only use a slim cover, but if for instance I am carrying my backpack instead of my handbag, I use the same trick as booklover6 and put the Kindle+cover in a padded envelope .

What specific padded zippered envelopes do you recommend?

I recommend the Belkin Sleeve, which I think I got on ebay, but here is an Amazon link.
link This is a soft but sturdy and firm case which can be opened from a long or a short side, which is extremely useful depending on what bag you are using to carry it in. eta- mine doesn't zip open on the short side. Last edited by booklover6; 10-06-2013 at 04:03 PM. |

I do the same as booklover and aceflor, but my slip case is not zippered. It's the Built NY KK case.

BTW, I'll be following your advice and getting a slip case. Ended up getting a clearance M-edge cover from Radio Shack for $2. Will get a cover later or maybe even try to repurpose a small bag.

In all honesty I don't see the need for a separate sleeve - the official Amazon cover is very rigid and provides excellent protection against the twisting forces which are what generally break eInk screens. I've carried my PW in a backpack for the last year in the Amazon cover and it's been fine.
